1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

rode flume trail last week. took some pics. thought i'd share.

it took me 3hrs to finish - flume trail shop to the shuttle area. i about died on the first hour --- 4+ miles of uphill climb!!!! i lost count on how many times i've stopped and rested just on this first hour but i know it was more than 15x! my cardio isn't too good. but im happy i did it! this was my goal when i got my mtb about a month ago! ...btw seeing lake tahoe from this trail were just simply amazing! spectacularly sooOo gorgeous!

I have that exact bike, and an hour of climbing on it, in shape or out, is no small thing. It ain't exactly light. Great job! Sounds like a great ride, and that's a beautiful view.

Nice! I've yet to hit this trail myself. I was up in Tahoe last weekend too hiking up Mt. Rose with the GF. I discovered an MTB trail parallel to the hiking trail, I'll have to hit that one up too!

Well done! Now go do it again, and enjoy it even more the next time around (if that's possible).

That climb is a monster. Not to mention it's at elevation too. Every time I ride Tahoe it takes me about a hour to get my breathing down. That first hour I just feel like I can't get enough air in my lungs. The Flume is beautiful. I always tell people it's a trail that you have to do at least once. You should check out Hole in the Ground. It's across the street from Boreal. If you made it up the climb for the flume you'll be ok out there. Awesome trail with fun technical sections.
