    Newb from D.C.

I've lurked the forum before but just joined. Spring is coming and after two years of training I finally have my Jamis Durango 1 at my duty station. Looking forward to camping on weekends with my mountain bike or my motorcycle. I feel this site will help with both.

Basic hardtail 26er 2010 model bought new from Eastern Mountain

    When I go out:
Water bottle (need to grab camelbak from home)
    Tail pack
    Extra tube
    Topeak multi-tool
    Folding knife
    Cell phone: Quad Lock mount
    Bluetooth headphones

    First aid kit:
    Medical Tape
    Alcohol Pads
    Super Glue

    Frame bag:
    For first aid kit

Camping: I plan to get away on some weekends; thinking simple and minimalist.

    550 cord
    Compass-if needed
    More Water
    Field Wipes
    Clothes: Socks, Underwear

Look forward to all the information available here.

Sounds like fun. How many people? What help do you need? I'd do a test run and make sure that there's cell signal. Don't leave home without your NetFlix

I don't see pump, mini pumps or co2 pump on that list. No one expect or like doing trailside fix so get the most powerful pump you can a) afford, b) fit into your hydration pack. I carry co2 in addition to my regular pump anyways.

    Re: Newb from D.C.

:Forgot to put my pump on the list. I have a mini pump attached next to my bottle cage. Made by topeak. Works well enough whenever I need to recharge the tire pressure.

Number of people will be decided case by case. Most likely solo trips since I'm the only one at my barracks with a mountain bike. But a few guys have shown some interest in getting involved.

Help wise; mainly just looking for info on what to pack, eventual upgrades to my bike and local trails around the area. Already realized I never brought any first aid supplies with me so this weekend I'll be stopping by the local cvs and getting some basic supplies. And I love surfing forums for future ideas and just to browse out of boredom when I finish work for the day.

Cell service seems pretty stable in the D.C. area so I'm not worried about that. Netflix eats to much data but I'm all for some Pandora out in the woods to get a nice variety of music.
