1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    New in Santa Clarita Valley

Hello, I live in the Santa Clarita Valley area. The TL;DR version of this post is: my wife is a new trail rider and I want to find somewhere I can take her where she won't get overwhelmed and/or think trail riding is "too hard", including not too much climbing or downhill to start with. Anyone know an off-road trail in Santa Clarita Valley area that might work, or let's say within 40 miles?

My wife and I just bought entry level Specialized (Rock Hopper for me the husband, Myka for her the wife). I would say our components are of the more modest quality, we do have disc brakes, hard tail, Suntora front shocks.

Having ridden for years before, I'm comfortable riding but want to know if any riders know of a good dirt tail/road I can take her on, in the Santa Clarita Vallley area (or we're willing to drive somewhere else)? I don't want to take her on something that will scare her or some grinding uphill climb that makes her feel she can't do this.

    Hi Sepulchura,

Here's a link to a post started that's you'll find interesting. Chime in and I'm assuming no mention of kids so you've got a lot of fun free time on your hands. You can also head out to Agoura Hills area for some great riding to. Or take her to the beach. Always fun.

I've got to figure out where I stand in all this...
