1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    New Here, Need Help

Hi everybody. Im from Pa and im just now getting back into riding. I rode for 2 years before I thrashed my bike and never got another one. Well now im looking again and i need your help. Im 6'1" about 175 lbs and im looking for a bike that will be good for mostly downhill and freeride at about medium difficulty. And im looking to spend $350-550 somewhere in that range. If you guys have any suggestions including ride height, brand, accessories etc. it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Keep saving dude, DH/FR bikes are designed to get beat on so the components & frame need to be really good.

I hear ya but thats a big order to fill, your going to destroy a bike in that price range riding it agressive. Check these out, you will have to come up with some xtra duckets though.
