1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    Need A Little Help

    i'm looking for a XC bike for my girlfriend to begin. i wanted to know if Rocky Mountain Flow F3.0 can be used also for XC or thet its just a Freeride-Dirtjumping Bike. or should i go for the Specialized Hardrock thets is well known as a good XC beginners bike.
    does anyone have experience with that Rocky Mountain thet can help me on this one?

    I think that both bikes can be used for xc, but the specialized hardrock looks just al little bit more xc due to its shorter fork travelling, and that will makes climbing easier.

    Can your girlfriend try both bikes for a testdrive in a store for best fit/handeling? What geometry does she prefer?

    A lady specific saddle is a good tip if you want your girlfriend to go on from begin... I bought a Selle Italia Lady Sport Gel Flow for my girlfriend and she is very happy with it!
