Need advice with buying a 2005 trek 4500

Anyone with a Trek 4500? I'm looking at a 2nd hand deal of a 5-year old 2005 Trek 4500, still looks good, well-maintained with new hand grips. The owner is asking for $170. I"m wondering if it worth it?

Would have went for about $550 new, so not a bad deal if the rest of the bike (not just a pair of $10 grips) is in good condition. If your not sure of the condition, see if the owner will let you take it to an LBS and pay them to do a quick look over.

Hi, I have a Trek 4500 D. Its a nice cycle. I have not ridden it much as am yet to get a correct fitting saddle for it. You might want to check the saddle. The 2011 model's saddle is too narrow and hard.
You can find specs for 2005 model on trek site. I am unable to post the link due to my post count being less than 10. As for the current worth of it, you might want to ask the others.

Thanks for the comments and info but too bad, someone just bought it from the owner with $200. Ah! Guess I'll have to check out the bike auction at my university campus this weekend.

Newbie here but an 820 is around 330 at my local bike store, even in great shape 300 is a bad deal because then you get no service or warrenty. you get it tuned up and you've paid more than new. You also don't get discounts on acessories which my store offers and I am sure many others as well. sorry for bad typing, baby in lap!

I can't help you with that, I'm not good with haggling. I tend to just not answer ads that are overpriced.

I work on the 4300 more than the 820. What type of riding?

I'll be using it to on roads (alot of slopes around my place), on campus but would like to do try it on some simple trails and jumping tricks sometimes. Maybe a little of everything?
