1. The most important thing about buying a new
bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right
for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches
your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.
|
 |
2. If possible, try to find a shop that will
let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut
it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should
be no different.
|
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because
your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean
that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your
needs and ability.

Awesome, very good glossary. TY so much and GBU (God bless You).
maybe add: (bcoz I dont see these on the list)
Granny - refer to small chainring.
Bashguard -- usually replacing big chainring to protect the drivetrain.
Shim -- not sure how to describe it though, need help on this.
missinglink/ master link -- a chain link that can be detach without tool. (maybe someone has better wording?)
Dropper post --- adjustable seatpost, could be mechanical like Gravity Dropper or Hydrolic like Reverb.
WTF -- (when you are about to fall).
-
a bit more:
HAB --- hike a bike, when you r out of gas, you push your bike up.
Sandbagger --- a rider who said he is a beginner, but actually rips.
Speedy Gonzales --- my bike's name...hehehe..

I read this 4 months ago and didn't know what most of it meant. It was nice to come back after some time to read it again and actually understand quite a bit of it now. Great post.
