1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    Incame: 2013 Cannondale 29er Trail SL2

Great deal, great ride. Very Happy with my purchase. Picked it up on Saturday and took her out for her (and mine) first trail ride, 5.8 mile loop, flat but fun.
All the local shops took their time with me, answering my questions and this deal came about. Significant discount on 2013 model to go out and I jumped on it.
Very happy and wanted to say thanks to all that offered any comments and opinions on getting a new ride.

I like the Cannondale Trail SL line, but I found for the money, the Trek Cobia was a better deal than a Trail SL2. Also the Trek has 100mm of travel instead of 80.

IMO Trek gets you better components for a lower price but sacrifices frame quality. Good choice with the SL have an SL4 from 2011 and its been good to me.
