1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

CamelBack M.U.L.E. is the standard of the industry.

Another vote for the Camelback MULE.
It will fit that in and more, yet it's compact enough to take on every ride.

I take mine with me even for the 10 minute trip to the shops or the generally 1-2hr rides I usually do.

I carry a pump, tube, patch kit, multi tool, some first aid items, mobile, chain breaker, sometimes shock pump, a few miscellaneous items and at times parcels to the post office, newspaper home etc.

MULE is the way to go to carry that much stuff.

    On a side note...

Do you have any concept of what a banana is going to look like after it has been bouncing around inside your hydration pack for 15 miles?

All that stuff you want to carry is going to be covered in banana goo...

    But to each their own.

You forgot the most important items in your pack...

A spare tube, a pump, and at least one tire lever.

Make sure you add those in too.

    Good luck,

How can you guys get all that stuff in the MULE? I couldn't do it. I couldn't get a rain suit in mine unless I didn't fill the water pouch. I upgraded to the HAWG. I still love the MULE though.
