1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

How much is this bike worth?

I am new to biking and am not sure where to post this.

I don't have allot of funds on hand and was wondering if this is a good deal?

Here is the bike I'm looking at, it's in really really good shape.

    Women's mountain bike, REI Bonita

    Used Novaro Bonita $275

It looks like a $20 garage sale bike to me. In fact, you see bikes like that and better at garage sales al the time. $15-20 is a normal offer price. Hit some sub sales.

Don't pay $275 for that bike. Like the post above says, $20-$40 tops.

It made me that much more curious that people panned the bike so badly.

Yeah, $275 is way too high. I think "goes, stops and shifts" is worth $100, but whatever the base geometry is like (probably weird,) as it sits, that bike's not really appropriate for learning MTB.
