1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    Help choosing 1st MTB!

I need help deciding which one of these 2 bikes to get for my first MTB. I've made the decision to go with an Airborne based purely on their unbeatable value and the components selection just can't be beat in the price range. Plus they seem like a cool smaller company that listens to there customers that I'd like to support. I'm not new to biking, used to race BMX way back in the day (I'm 41 now). I'm thinking I'll be doing some XC & Trail riding, semi aggressive, but nothing crazy. I'm stuck with what I'm sure is a pretty normal question which is getting a more trail HT or going XC FS. Both these bikes seem like they'd be awesome to ride and $1800 is the max I can afford. Help sway me in a direction. I could go either way at this point. Here are the bikes I'm looking at:

    Airborne Bicycles. HobGoblin
    or
    Airborne Bicycles. Goblin Evolution

The Hob will be easier on your body, spec wise they are very close and if you don't see changing bikes in the near future go with the FS.
