1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

New question here. Headset question for on-one whippet

    Hi All,

I've been riding for around ten years with an old Corrotec x-vert and decided to treat myself a new MTB with SLX groupset.

Recently I bought on-one whippet with integrated headset, so I dropped in the cups and expected the best. My first build

It says it is 1 1/8.
The problem is that bottom is much wider and does not sit on fork crown race but on the fork itself.

Does anyone know what my problem is? Is it for tapered forks or do I need a headset reducer or a special crown race?

p.s. also I bought kcnc 92mm bottom bracket and took the BB and the frame to my LBS and surprise surprise they said the BB is standard shimano 73mm "screw in". So the plastic BB that comes with SLX crank fit right in.

Its for a tapered fork, you can get a headset that can use a regular fork

I think there is a misunderstanding with your LBS. The Whippet uses a BB92 bottom bracket. If they used a plastic BB, that's a BB92 bottom bracket. External threaded BB's are not plastic.

Your picture doesn't work. What headset did you buy?

    Fork image, maybe this works:

I ordered now : Da Bomb Depth Charge Headset - 1.5" Reducer 2013 | Chain Reaction Cycles

Also, for the BB I had Product KCNC BB92 Pressfit Bottom Bracket and it did not fit. And the one that came with SLX is Bike24 - Shimano SM-BB70 Bottom Bracket BSA for Hollowtech II

You sure it's a Whippet? I think you need to talk to OnOne.

You have Carbon 456, not a Whippet.

The headset you linked is wrong for either frame.

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

Yes, you are right. It is 456.
I am sure I ordered yellow undecaled whippet (at least that was written on the invoice) and tadada it's not.
But the shipping costs are too high to return. So I'll probably order On-One Smoothie mixer.

If it was ordered wrong by the shop, why would you have to pay return ship?

Maybe not, but I already threw the boxes away since they take too much space to keep, so my bad. Also, the process is a hassle for me.

I just want to ride it.

If I'm only missing the headset it's faster for me to get that than to get the frame exchanged. Also, the 456 and whippet is not that different (at least for me) and if I get new longer fork for drops the 456 suits even better.

I contacted On One and will see what their answer is.
