Good 29 tires for mountain bike?

OK, I have my Surly Ogre frameset, and am starting to learn how to put it together. What is a good tire for commuting/dirt roads/ Something pretty puncture proof.

I don't think the different companies' puncture protections are all that different from one another. But, having puncture protection is better than not having puncture protection.

With MTB tires, make sure you get tires with puncture protection under the tread, not sidewall protection. (Unless you tend to tear sidewalls, then get both. Point is, it's a different problem.)

Any XC tire should do the job reasonably well. Get the second-tier version. If the Ogre will clear a 2.3", do that.

I'd be a bad fanboy if I didn't shout out the Schwalbe Racing Ralph. But their name is on my jersey somewhere.
