Hey, I've been on the forums for a lil while now, but I still don't know much about geometries of bikes. This summer I'm going to get a new FS frame to replace my HT, but I don't know if I should get an AM or XC set-up, or what measurements to look at like top tube length and all that. I would go to a lbs and try some out, but I don't even know what I need would feel like. I've only been riding since October. I need it for trail riding, something quick, but capable of 2-3 foot drops atleast, and I've never gone up a hill that wasn't covered in either roots or landscaping timber used to make steps for hikers (4") so i need something that I can maneuver. I'm 6' and have a 19.5" ht frame now, but I wouldn't know what size top tube or head angle I should be looking for really. thanks for any help.
You might want to keep honing your skills on your HT while you wait for the right bike for you. If you've been only riding since october I would honestly give it some more time.
I do ride alot though...I'm in college and ride it every day to class, and then do recreational trail riding 3-6 times a week. I really want a FS because of the abundance of roots on my trails, but I want to make sure it's an educated decision.
I would suggest stopping by your LBS and trying out some bikes. they'll be able to help you with your questions about geometry, riding style, etc. It sounds like you will want a 4-5" travel XC/Trail bike like a Giant Trance or something similar.
