1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    Getting back into riding

    Good morning....

I have a 2003 Giant hardtail that i had upgraded through the years.. It has sat for the past 5 years since getting married and having a daughter... this past weekend i was teaching my daughter how to ride her bike and wanted to go out with her and seemingly got the bug again to ride.

My bike is as we speak at the LBS getting a tune up and probably a new rear derailleur cable. But i would like to switch to a full suspension ride that i can upgrade.. I am not in the position to spend $2000 on a bike

any suggestions on where to possibly find a new to me ride other than craigslist. I am in Northern NJ..

Not many people are in position to spend $2000 on a bike. Whats your budget?
