1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

I found some carbon seatposts name brand (FSA) but they come from china...only $36 bucks...part of me says its too good to be true..the other part of me says damn its cheap...worth it?..or will it fail after a few rides...I doubt I'll do this..but I was wondering if anyone has had experience doing something like this?

Its definitely not an FSA seatpost. Also its not that light... They CLAIM 268g. My Thomson Masterpiece (aluminum) came in at 170g with just a half inch cut off.

    Pass.

Not all things from China are bad, just the fake ones

Do you want light weight post or carbon post? There are plenty of reputable brands at very reasonable price especially last year models.

I bought one, it was only a 10g over the claimed weight and works just fine.
