New question here. Explain SRAM 2:1

Can someone explain to me what exactly SRAM 2:1 line of components are? I'm aussuming that 2:1 shifters would need matching derailleurs? What does a 2:1 line give me over the standard say X9 parts?

SRAM makes 2:1 ratio shifters to work with shimano derailleurs. Shimano shifters and rear derailleures work on a 2:1 leverage ratio.
SRAM's 1:1 components ( X series ) work with each other but are not shimano compatible.
