1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

Did I get ripped off? (2010 GT Avalanche 3.0 XL)

I bought this same bike for 400$ because it was the only XL one I could find, and its 'like new'.

Did I get ripped, good deal, or fair price?

    EDIT:Cant post pics yet.

    Thanks for looking and replying.

The question is did you get a like new bike? is everything in working order and great condidtion? If so I would say you didn't get ripped off but possibly didn't do enough research prior to buying. You can buy the 2011 model on sale right now at Performance Bicycle in Charlotte for the same price, but like I said, it's on sale, it retails for 549.00. If you had to order it you would need to consider shipping charges so you still saved some money

REI sells the 2011 for $450. Getting a 2010 for $400 wasn't a great deal but you certainly weren't ripped off.
