1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    Computer with temperature and backlight

    Hey everybody,

I am somewhat surprised that there are such few computers out there with backlight and temperature. As a mountain biker I don't care much for metrics like cadence but it would be nice but I could sure use a backlight and temperature.

Bontrager offers Trip 5W and (it's replacement?) Trip 200 but the Trek dealers in Canada have marked them up way too much. So much questions are:

    1) Are there any other computers that provide temperature and backlight?

    2) Are there any online ships where I can purchase any such computer from?

    Thanks.

Thanks but that's more than 3 times the price of what I am looking for. I also don't need a GPS.

Re: Computer with temperature and backlight

This is an ok low-cost computer. You just have to remember to turn it on before riding.

    Got mine at Wal-Mart.
