1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.
mtn. biking 101
2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

Comfort seats ,gel seats, commuter bike seat opinions

hey every body,I just baught me a new bike on ebay "new used" i have not got it yet and i am buying new toys for it online.i buy everything online.i live on a island and we dont have a bike shop worth a %$#&,

i baught a bianchi DISS ,thats a pretty nice aluminum single speed bike with disc brakes

I am not exactly a beginer as far as bikes go.i am 29 years old and i have had quite a few name brand mountain bikes and lots of good small 20" bikes. i have strong legs ,I used to build lots of ramps and jump them on mountain bikes and small bikes ,i dont do off road because i dont have any off road, i am a marine diesel mechainc and have been my whole life,so i can turn a wrench on a bicycle

i will be using this bianchi diss for transportation , i am not a fitness guy but i am not a big fat guy eather. I am thinking about a comfort seat,"why not" i know they dont look that cool on a nice bike to have a big o'l gradma hemroid seat on top a sleak aluminum race bike, but i bet could live with it if it felt so amazing i could not go back to those skiny hard dildo seats the bikes come with.

here are a few seat links if any of you could coment please do.

I've found that the "comfort" saddles aren't very comfortable at all. YAMV (your ass may vary). Check out the WTB and Terry saddles.

Not great for technical conditions because it gets in the way, but awesome for 50 mile sit-down rides:

The $25 wtb speedV is comfy enough. A suspension post will add a ton of butt cush without the funk and bulk of gell. Use good bike shorts on long rides and experiment with the saddle height.

the 5" wide cloud 9 or the 9" wide cloud 9"

they have regular dildo model and a grandma modle which one for long distace road riding for a regular non lance armstrong type?

can those big fat seats make you sore also by just being to damn big and rubbing you wrong or pushing on you leg or butt meat or bones wrong?I think that maybe they could

i am asking all of these stupid questions because i dont have a bike shop and i realy dont want to waste 20 bucks here 30 bucks here 50 bucks there on a bunch of stuff pluss all of the shipping cost.i know that is not allot of money but i would rather waste it on something else.

i am not going to buy any seat yet until i try the WTB V that it just so happens to come with that one of you sugested.

    thanks guys

also i cannot were bike shorts,i just cant. i would probably get arested, my fammily would diss own me.i am to set in my ways to start grape smuggling now.

and it is not like i have serious ass pain issues, i just want my new bike to be freaking pimped out.

Yes, that's exactly what they do. If you spend more than 20 minutes twice a month on your bike then they are going to be no good. Of course, if all you're doing is making single laps around the cul de sac than maybe the big granny seat will work out just fine for you.

    i understand now.

i ride usualy over a hour a day, sometimes lots lots more and sometimes less.

so i need a regular size saddle with a trench in the middle for my nuts and try a few different ones that fitt my ass bones the best.

    thanks for all the input.

By 'bike shorts' I guess you are thinking spandex. Get baggies with padding. Many of us ride those and you can walk into Starbucks or Target without feeling like an alien, lol.

The cutout on seats aren't for clearance they so the seat flexes, making the seat more confortable.

Heehee HoHo, You don't want to put your boys in the seat trench.
If you do, you will only do it once.

Give the speedV a couple months. Your butt bone will need to become acustom to any new seat. Expect a little soreness.

I am new to this as well, both me and my girlfriend hated our seats but after a week or so (long days) they are great.

Do make sure you get it adjusted, all teh bikes I test rode where outright painful (for me) and needed to be tilted down a hair.

    regards
    Ray

i dont have any disscomfort, whats going on is i just baught a bike online and i have not got it yet, and i am buying new toys for it online ,I can ride a hard plastic BMX seat or a old dryed out rustly leather springer seat no promlems.
I was wanting to get the low down on seats ,I have never talked to anyone about bikes before.i am thinking a cool new comfortable seat would bake my new bike even more tight.

and i am pleased because as it turns out one of the seats recomended is already on the bike. so i am going to give that a shot.my new second hand bike has miles of some dudes ass sweat on it. but i am going to give it a shot,i aint to proud

I cannot wait to get my new single speed. today i was haulin ass and bunny hoped a curb went down through a ditch and hopped up onto the street,"i made a short cut" and when i landed my freaking chain slaped off of the rear sproket and jamed between the frame and the hub,no big deal ,but with my SS there will be no more of that crap.

and have decided not to get a seat post with a shock in it.i never neaded one before. and it is just more heavy crap on my nice slimmed down clean smooth bike.

    just pedal!
