    choosing the next bike

Hi everybody my name is Alex,
Im currently riding the asphalt trails in NYC and trying to avoid the streets.
My current bike is Trek 7200 - comfort bike 700c with 20 frame and its at my height limit (511).

Im considering some different bike for next year riding:

The 700c (comfort?) is not as quick and versatile as a 26 mountain bike

Its hard to take close turns without lowering a foot

99% of my riding is on asphalt but I do jump stairs if its like 1-5 or even climb 1-3 stairs I dont get of the bike - my comfort bike with 700c tires is not built for that

My budget is limited and the season is almost over in NYC so I have time to look and study the market

Which bike is the easiest to ride fast on asphalt: 26 mtb, 29er, 700 x 35c ?

too many trees to notice the forest.

    Thanks
    Alex

I would get something like a kona shred if you are going to be jumping stairs. You can get a nice set of bmx style tires and and the kona bikes have a beefed up frame for jumping

That Giant looks good I was thinking about one of these all in the range of $500 - $600

    Specialized Hardrock Disc 29
Trek Wahoo Disc 29 (Gary Fisher Collection)
    Diamondback Overdrive 29'er Mountain Bike

I'm not gonna buy any of them now only next spring meanwhile I'm looking for used gems on CL
    Thanks

If you know you want a bike, spring is the worst time to buy. Right now shops will deal on old inventory to make room for new, just like cars.

I would advise you to go ahead and buy now if you know you're going to later. You could save a few hundred.

    Yes TwoTone I hear ya,
we have winter coming to NYC and plenty of good bicycles tied to street poles so pretty soon CL is gonna be full of good bikes because people wouldn't store them in their small NYC apartments.

Right now I have a bike so there is something to ride and see what I can find on CL - not to bite my elbows later seeing what I missed and my bicycle parking is full with $600 bike and no space for the $2500 bike sold for $500......
