Are Chinese Parts Fakes?

I saw some headsets on ebay- Said Chris King on them, looked similar- but after comparing machining they are not exact- Is this fake chinese stuff? I can only imagine that someone in China would buy a REAL King headset only to copy it. I would rather pay more and get the real thing and keep my money here.

Chris king branded from china is most likely fake. Should not be used


Chinese branded like hylix are way more reliable as they are trying to build a good reputation. They care about quality and reliability because their products sell by word of mouth vs marketing propaganda like pro sponsorship

Very likely fakes. I usually report them on ebay (click on the report link).

I own an engineering company that makes race car parts and even our parts have been copied and faked overseas.... some even had the audacity to photocopy our instruction sheets and include those. Nothing is sacred over there.

The fakes look almost alike until you put them together side by side. Very often the ebay pics are of the real thing and they pull a fast one and ship the fakes. Materials used in these fakes is always substandard, bottom-of-the-barrel crap.

Protip: When searching on Ebay, I typically limit my search to stuff found in "North America" only.

Next- Excellent point of view, you still have the floor- in this case no ones cares if real or fake - awesome is awesome.

btw- I checked that link, that fake CK headset was way better of a copy than what I saw offered up. Markings didn't come close to the attempt that is linked above.
I tried the tip when looking for something, look close to home and native.

A fake is a fake where ever it is made.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

That said, I have some "Original Adidas, Very Special Price For You Only My Friend" shirts ... and I don't see how the real thing could be better
(that probably doesn't apply to things like headsets)

For sure they are fake. I had one, a buddy gave it to me. They look pretty real from a few feet away, but looking at it next to the bike they are so fake. I had it on my commuter for a long time til I gave it away. All the pieces are almost the same just cheaply made.

Ugh, I hate fakes. Being a person who compares everything, I take hours reading descriptions, prices, looking at photos, then find out one was fake... BACK TO SQUARE 1.

there's a ton of counterfeit merchandise out there. a lot of it is garbage and not worth the toilet paper you wipe your @$$ with, but some of it isn't bad in its own right and would be respectable product if they stopped trying to copy someone else (I am thinking of some of the $1,000 counterfeit Rolex watches, not the $20 ones - while they're not Rolex quality, most do tend to be decent watches in their own right).

My father-in-law went to China on business once and bought a bunch of $20 Rolexes. It was a sharp-looking watch, but I couldn't keep the auto-wind up enough for it to run all day. He swore up and down that it was a real one. I took it apart and found all of the discrepancies between it and a real Rolex to be sure it was junk.

I don't know that I would trust chinese knockoff parts with my life. That said some chinese parts are very well made.

I don't know that I'd trust any knockoff parts with my life, regardless of country of origin.

However, I'm perfectly fine with Chinese-manufactured parts that aren't being marketed as something else. Which is good, given how much stuff is manufactured there.
