1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

Which bike to buy??? Demo or Stumpjumper FSR

Okay so, I am just getting in to the sport of MTB, I have rode dirt bikes for years and I need a little advice. I live in southern MO where there is a lot of Singletrack and XC. There are a few DH trails but mostly the other two. That is why I would get the StumpjumperFSR. I am going to start going to Colorado a few times at year for some downhill action though. I also love to jump off of obstacles, and just ride up and off of stuff. That is when the Demo comes up. I also might be doing some DJ. Someone please give me some advice!

Buy an entry-level XC bike and an inexpensive dirt jump bike to start and rent when you want to do downhill.
No, YOU don't understand. You're making an ass of yourself for all of eternity.

I think could also go with something in between the two bikes. To stay with specialized for example, it would be along the lines of an Enduro EVO or older sx Trail. Demo is too much bike for non-lift riding, and I think you'll end up breaking the stumpy pretty quick.
For DJ, I'd pick up a decent used BMX.

Would the enduro be pretty decent for dh too?
