1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    2011 Cannondale Trail SL2

    Hi Everyone,

I'm looking at buying a used 2011 Cannondale Trail SL2. It's a medium frame. I'm 5ft 11 1/2 in. Does anyone have this bike, or a newer model with a medium frame? Would that frame be too small for my height?

    Any advice would be great!

can you test ride the bike? whenever i see a medium sized bike, there's always a sticker that says for 5'6''-5'10" riders, but my bike is a medium and i feel like a 6 footer could fit on it fine. i would just use the s,m,l,xl, sizes as a baseline, but try the bike out for yourself if you can and see if it fits you. good luck!

I've got a medium 2011 singlespeed version (SL3) of this bike. It all depends on how you're built & how you like your fit.

I'm 5' 10-1/2" & it fits me well. Compared to other medium hardtail frames I've ridden, the standover's a little high & the reach is a little short. If you're built like a t-rex, it'll likely be a decent fit. If you're built like a gorilla, it's likely to be a poor fit. If you're of "average" build (whatever the heck that is), the most you're likely to need is a longer stem or setback post.

Ride it & see what it feels like.
    Start slow, then taper off.
