1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

At 200 bucks I say go for it.....consider it a throwaway. All told, it's not a bad bike, especially for the price. Having said that...be advised that Performance has discontinued Access from what I understand. Given their great return policy, if you have any issues with the frame I'm sure they will take care of you.

Give it a shot. Performance has a no questions asked return policy which I've taken advantage of before. They have no problem taking a bike back if you don't like it.

    I'd get it.

    edited part

I would get it and when the parts break or wear out upgrade them. It looks like a decent bike for the price.

It's every bit as good as Giant or Trek's entry level.. in fact almost all the parts are identical but for a few hundred less.

Looks like a deal to me.

It is a new thing called stores that you can actually walk in and buy a bike. No more sitting at your desk and clicking, you now can go in pick one out and take it home the same day.

sorry for the sarcasm but it had to be said DOH

The components are on the low end, but heck, that's still a steal for $200. If it's your size, jump on it. Performance wants $179 for the frame alone. Access XCL Comp Mountain Bike Frame - Mountain Bike Frames

I have very similar specs on my Moto 450HT which I paid $320.00 shipped - I love mine! but I'm hooked and I'm new so take it with a grain of salt and I'm ridding the heck out of it til I can upgrade.

Didn't see it in the store near me. Chatted to a rep on their web site, the rep said they don't have plans to restock this bike.
