1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

New question here. 09 Cannondale F5 v. 09 Fisher Marlin Disc. v. Rockhopper Disc?

Hey ya'll, I'm new to the site and was seeing if I could get a little help on deciding which bike would be the best value for my money and be solid enough to take some beatings on the trail. I've been riding for about 9 years now, I started with BMX doing jumps and then moved on to trail riding (XC) and really love it. I don't have a bike at the moment and i am looking to buy one of these very soon. This will pretty much start me out since I haven't had a "real" MT bike for a while (used to ride my brothers), but I can handle myself on a bike pretty well. To me they all seem the same since they're in the same price range and I've ridden the F5 and the Marlin but not the Rockhopper yet. The F5 feels the best so far and I'm looking to spend around $700 give or take.

If you have any imput, opinions, or experiences with these bikes I would appreciate it, thanks!

    Specialized Rockhopper Disc.

I have been looking around at these as well (including the wahoo). I have priced several of them and the Cannondale is looking like the better buy so far.

I am going to test ride a XL Cannondale F5 today.

I rode a bunch of bikes in this class and the Rockhopper was a winner for me. I own the 2008.

    Here's mine:

If you can afford, go for the Comp as it has (for $200 more) better components, but most important a better fork.
