# Thread: What is the official time for Beer:30?

1. ## What is the official time for Beer:30?

Last time I was up in Vancouver, BC my girlfriend and I were having lunch and beers at a local brewery. We were on vacation...it's always beer time. So while we were enjoying ourselves, a couple construction workers came in, hard hats, safety vests, company logos...they had two beers each with their lunch. That kinda caught me off guard, I'm in construction...but I don't drink at lunch. So my question is, when is ok to start drinking?

2. i dont drink at lunch either.

i'd say for the most part..after work. unless there is a lawnmower involved..or guns. anytime there is tortilla chips and dip?

okay..after work.

Whenever you feel like it!

4. So much to unpack here:

First of all, I can't believe you're asking a bunch of MTBers when it's ok to start drinking - that is like asking a frat boy on spring break in Cabo.

Secondly, you are talking about Canada, so not a fair comparison - that is not beer - I get more of a buzz from kombucha than from that stuff they call beer

Third, it's always after work somewhere for someone!

BTW since you seem bored with all these hypothetical questions - once you figure this out, can we starting working out what the actual theoretical Newtonian force of beer gravity is! - there has to be some equation

5. I can start in the AM if it's right after a ride.

Otherwise, at around 3pm I wrestle if it's coffee o'clock or beer o'clock.

When I'm up against this dilemma I typically put Baileys in the coffee!

7. It depends on the width of your handlebars.

Wider bars = earlier, 800mm = mid-ride.

I gotta get some wider bars

9. This calls for a staged photo: 29er, bars, rim width and beer. Don't tell Squashyo since he'll do it nekkid.

Now that is genius - an inverse relationship between handlebar width and Beer30! The equation goes:

B=T/W where, B= Beer30, T = Time you get to start drinking, and W = Width of handlebar, so if handlebar width is infinite you never stop drinking, and if you are a roadie, then no drink for you!

So I'm really supposed to believe y'all didn't carry "trail sodas" in your moto-riding days? ;-) My so.cal buddies each carry a six-pack. One for each safety break! <D'OH!>

Of course the instructor in me sez finish everything else (except cooking!) before drinking. Cooks need to be well lubed you know. :-)

Catfish ...

12. Subtract 28 minutes from the color of your bike, there is your beer 30.

Me too. Just poured a Belgian ale in my coffee cup.

Since it appears to be teasing day ...

Hey fc, have you figured out WHY you (& everyone but me) love IPA so much? Here is a link that doesn't seem to be about beer, but keep reading until you get to the beer part ...

:-)

Catfish ...

15. wait...nobody said nothing about there being any math..

16. I teach a 1/2 combination class, so Beer:30 is about 10 seconds after I walk through the door of my house.

(because they frown on me drinking at school)

Ah, hell yeah! Any time after 8:30 is fine as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not really concerned.

18. It's 4:20 somewhere, amiright? Slip on shoes are the best.

20. The only answer is, now.

26. ## OT: What is the official time for Beer:30?

Conversation enders:

"You have anything in that cooler that's non-alcoholic?"

"I DON'T like hoppy!"

"My favorites are Blue Moon. Oh, and Shock Top."

Doesn't mean we don't talk. Just means we stop talking about beer.

27. Up until sometime in 2012 I always looked forward to the post ride beer during the last miles of a solid ride. Cold beer really does satisfy; it hits the spot for I dare say most all of us here.

I am speaking for myself her only.

What happened in 2011? It actually started years before. I however became acutely aware that the practice of post ride beers and then climbing into a vehicle and going for the drive home was irresponsible. Yes I had succumbed to MADD.

It was also at that time that I realized the law actually forbids hanging around your car and drinking beer, as the driver. You need to move your picnic away, close the car, and settle down a fair distance.

Even then, we might still be in some sort of potential jeopardy as we quaff. There are frequently prohibitions against drinking which are easily overlooked.

And then there was the urge to stop and pee somewhere on the way home that was inconvenient.

On top of that, there was the sleepiness that was difficult for me if the drive was more than 3 hours.

So the result has usually resulted in delayed gratification, unless I have a Designated Driver, usually my wife, who is okay with the party.

More and more we are choosing tea or water.

Damn I am getting old!

But yes, beer hits the spot
Now those last miles, I savor, and don't mind dragging them out. I ride to ride, not drink beer.

32. At my bike shop we are firm believers in beer:30 half an hour before closing, workload permitting. Doesn't often actually work out and we'll typically have a beer after last customers are out the door.

One should also consider that to be 15 minutes early is to be on time. I am convinced this applies to beer:30 as well.

33. Beer:30 is right eff'n now

34. Beers with lunch is starting to become more and more acceptable in San Diego as it already has been for centuries in Europe.

Look up the definition of a Saison or Farm House style. Field workers were given liquid bread for lunch.

also, sorry guys but we have a Beer forum for a reason.

35. beer-30 approximately occures half-past the second circadian strike of the mercury on the sun dial when pi = 27.5 divided by your ride time (in hours) in nanoseconds.

36. You can't drink all day unless you start in the morning

37. Depends, and I don't drink much. Today mine was 10:30am. Got back from riding, have the day off, the chores were all done...cold one!

38. Literally anytime you want a beer and don't have obligations that conflict with drinking beer (such as driving or going to work).

39. I used to have a beer with lunch every now and again at my last job and it was never even the slightest problem. My current job, I don't do it.

Regarding the construction workers having two each with lunch seems a bit much unless it's really low % stuff.

40. So, I'm not working at the moment...beer 30 is anytime after noon
