    Tis the season

    For my favorite beers!

I have been enjoying my favorite seasonal for the past month or so- Old Jubilation Ale - Avery Brewing Company

Today I'm picking up another of my favorites for the first of the season- The Czar - Avery Brewing Company

Funny I don't really have a thing for Avery beers, I like to drink local brews like Left hand and Oskar Blues but Avery's winter ales kick arse. Also recently tried their Uncle Jacob's stout which is an Imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels, freakin awesome!

My local stores don't yet have Anchor Christmas ale which I'm impatiently waiting on. Been drinking some great winter beers, stouts, porters etc though - mostly local stuff that folks outside of BC won't know, but they are excellent! For instance, Storm Brewing's vanilla whiskey stout or echinacea stout; Vancouver Island Brewing's ice bock, which is famous around these parts; and Old Raspy of course.

This sounds amazing. Had a Shipyard Mint Chocolate Stout the other day. It wasn't above average. Harpoon's Chocolate Stout is out now. I can drink these about as fast as they can make them. I always buy extra, and store some for later in the year. Sierra Nevada's Narwhal is out now, and it is quite good. Looking forward to the next barrel aged Old Raspy too. Still have one of from last year kicking around.

Took a quick trip to Portland this weekend and had a cask Jubelale at Deschutes and a cask Abominable at HUB. I love winter.

    (Also loved the '13 Abyss....)

My favorite holiday beer last year in Oregon was Terminal Gravity's Festivale...at least for beer sold in six-packs and readily available. I haven't seen it yet this year. I tried the regular Jubelale this year and didn't like it much. Perhaps my tastes have changed. I've also had the Abominable from HUB and 21st Amendments Fireside Chat in cans. Both are nice.

I'll have to look for it -- usually makes it up my way in Seattle.

Well, the recipe changes slightly year-to-year, and I didn't like it much year before last either. Give the cask a shot though -- the flavor was a lot warmer, rounder and more complex than the plain draft.

Would love to try that vanilla whiskey stout, that's a local BC beer?
