Heading out to Cali
I'll be in Santa Barbara for 4 days next week (Solvang specifically) on a riding trip with some buddies.
Any suggestions on local beers or breweries we could try?
Or a bar that serves good beer??
We have a car so traveling a few miles is possible.
Lot's of good stuff in that area...
Firestone Walker and Figueroa Mountain breweries are just North of Solvang, off the 101.
Solvang even has a brewery (Solvang Brewing Co.)! Never been there, but it could be good.
Telegraph and Hollister breweries are just South in Santa Barbara.
Plus a handful of others...Santa Barbara Brewing, Orcutt Brewing Co., Anacapa Brewing, Etc.
Not sure about "beer bars" though, as a lot of these places are brewpubs, so we'd usually just eat at the brewery.
I'm sure someone can chime in on that though.

Not beer related but two-wheeled diversions...
If you're into two-wheels, motorized specifically, there's a cool vintage motorcycle museum in Solvang.
Good to know....
DEFINITELY hit up Firestone Walker. Awesome brews. The Firestone Winery has good stuff also.
whatever she says gueuze.
Closest to Solvang will be Firestone Taproom which is mainly a restaurant that serves some of their beers. Cool place but food is decent and beer selection is nothing special (norm like Union Jack, DBA, etc.). If you could make it to their brewery in Paso Robles, it's pretty awesome. We scored tasters of their 14th anniv when we were there....maybe they'll have the 15th when you get there. Anyhoo, Santa Barbara has Hollister and Telegraph (tiny brewery)as mentioned above. Check out San Luis Obispo if you can. It's a college town so you'll get lots of bars and restaurants, although SLO brewery kinda sucks.
Lots of good options up here in SLO: Firestone in Paso had Double Jack, Oaktoberfest, Parabola, Velvet Merlin, Nectar IPA, Union Jack, Pale 31, unfiltered DBA (waaaaaay better than regular DBA) plus loads of other great stuff on tap when I was there last month.
Creekside Brewing in SLO has some interesting brews, plus they're a restaurant with good food. Tapit Brewing is out by SLO airport and has a pretty tasty IPA, and finally Central Coast Brewing always has a selection of good stuff, plus the manager, Jim, is a crazy mountain bike guy, always good for an interesting conversation & insider trail knowledge. They're right next door to CBO too, so you can grab some beers then ogle bike stuff.
Spike's Pub isn't a brewery, but they have over 40 regular beers and have had some really tasty stuff on special lately, including most of Figueroa's stuff, Stone Arrogant Bastard, Sublimely Self-Righteous & Russian Imperial Stout, Drake's Aroma Coma, etc.
We got taken to Firestone the first night, it was great !!
Also drank plenty of Figueroa Hoppy Poppy IPA..... loved it....
