What's the best iphone apps out there and what makes them good?

Untappd

Tracks your beers, recommends similar brews, and helps locate trending local brews based upon your location.Also can link up with friends to see what they are drinking.

Untappd is the current best, but it still seems unpolished or unfinished. There should be a more detailed breakdown in the rating system - allowing users to either do just a quick 1-5 star rating, or different ratings on things like Appearance, Smell, Taste, etc (like the other beer websites.)

It's a "ticker" application. Allowing users to tick off beers they've had, but it's not much more than that. Not many people leave any sort of review other than their score.

The photo feature is good, and the location feature is good showing who is drinking what nearby, but their suggested brews algorithm is pretty bad. It recommends brews that have little to do with what you've had recently, and also recommends brews that are unavailable to buy (such as retired beers or beers with limited distribution.)

Lastly, the feature that shows your beer history is pretty terrible. There's no summary section (by style, location, abv, etc.) And as a ticker application, there's no incentive to try more beers than your friends because it's really hard to see what kind of beers they've had or are drinking short of scrolling through their list 3 beers at a time.

I don't find myself using it very often due to the above shortcomings.

I'll third Untapped.

I also use some of the brewing apps (Sparge Pal, Brew Pal, Mr Malty YC, Etc), and Beer Fridge for keeping inventory track of my personal stock.

A consultant at the brewery has a sim-type app that lets you run a brewery all the way from growing ingredients to games where you try to fill and cap bottles. Looks fun.

OK, I want Untappd.

I have Brew Gene, which is good for keeping comments and ratings and you can look up info.

I LOVED Remembeer on Android, but there is no iPhone app that is similar.

I use beerby, and so do about 30 of my best beer drinking buds, so I will keep using it since we all follow each other and I can see what my friends around the world are drinking. I have been using it for about 2 years now.

I also use Untappd. Untappd gives you the ability to easily find nearby craft beers and bars, see what beers are trending, as well as see where your friends are drinking. Untappd is a very useful app for drinkers.
