The Beer Share Picture Thread/Share your Beer
We have a thread for our recent pickups, but it seems every time we do a beer share we post a new thread, so here is a spot to just post your pics and notes from beer shares you go to. We look forward to your stories and pics! Also post up pics of whatever you happen to be drinking at the moment.
I will get started. Last night 01.11.13 a friend of mine who is a home brewer invited a few of us over to try his latest IPA. Since I do not home brew YET, I brought a few bottles of stuff. Here are the pics and some comments about the beers:
Part of the line up

Note on the green waxed bottle from the guy from PA who brewed it: "It's a home-brewed Graff, which a beer/cider hybrid. It's a cider base, brewed with Belgian 2-row, fermented primarily with a Belgian Ardennes yeast. Then has a secondary fermentation with a Brux Brettanomyces strain and oak stave/chip.
It's been very polarizing amongst friends, some either really like it, or don't...think bready sour apple " Personally I loved it. I really enjoy Ciders, and thought this was a great home brew effort at a cider/geueze style beer. Thanks for jFrauff for that one!
The Sholken Rubia is an Argentinian beer my brother Loren Klure brought back for me. According to what I could find online it was supposed to be a Blonde Lager, but it tasted kinda like a white wine, it certainly smelled like wine. It was good, but no longer a lager. I am not sure if it was the time it spend traveling back to the us, or the time it spent in my cellar that changed it.
Dogfish Head Indian Brown that aged quite nicely, and Dogfish Head Raison D'Etre. Paridise Moon Coffee Porter which I have had before, heavy on the coffee. And good Ole Sculpin.
Home Brews of the evening were Jeff Peterson fresh Nelson IPA, Micah Wiley shared his most recent IPA and his English Style Old Ale which was by far my favorite of the night. I will want to try brewing one of those, it would be fantastic on oak.
And here is how I like to re-heat my pizza, Caveman Style!

It was chilly, down in the low 40's upper 30's which is pretty cold for San Diego.

Street Tacos from the Primo Market:

Thanks for looking. Post up your pics!

We recently had a bottle share at a local craft beer and wine bar called Grape and Grain in San Mateo. Adam, the owner, has been hosting monthly shares since last summer and this one was the largest yet. It's a great venue to share big beers, rares, hard-to-finds, trades and older vintages.
Comprising mostly of Beeradvocate members and a group of us from MTBR, 25 of us sat down and made our way through the following:
Cascade Apricot Wild Ale
2007 Abbaye De Saint Bon-Chien Biere de Garde
Iron Fist The Resistance Wild Ale
Sante Adairius And You Me Berliner Weisse
Sante Adairius Chavez Porter
Boulevard Saison Brett
2010 Dogfish Head B!tches Brew Imperial Stout
New Glarus Cranbic
Olde Hickory The Event Horizon Imperial Stout
2008 Deschutes Dissident
Goose Island Madame Rose
The Bruery White Chocolate
Weyerbacher Idiot's Drool
Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee Brand Stout
2007 Upland Strawberry Lambic
The Bruery Barrel Aged 4 Calling Birds
2009 Russian River Temptation Batch 004
Firestone Walker Parabola
Alpine Chez Monieux
Sante Adairius Anais Saison
Alesmith Barrel Aged Speedway Stout
Alpine Duet
Alpine Nelson
Stone Enjoy By 2.15.03
Kuhnhenn Barrel Aged Solar Eclipse
Surly SYX
Goose Island Juliet
Ithaca Beer Flower Power
Alpine Pure Hoppiness
Hansenns Experimental Raspberry
Jackie O's Skipping Pappy
Hansenns Oudbeitje
The Bruery Marron Acidifie
2008 Cantillon Lou Pepe Framboise
Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break
Three Floyds Moloko Milk Stout
Dogfish Head 75 Minute
Clown Shoes Blaecorn Unidragon
DuClaw Oak Aged Black Jack Stout
Victory Dark Intrigue
Pretty Things Our Finest Regards
2011 Fifty Fifty Eclipse Elijah Craig 20 Year (white wax)
Jolly Pumpkin La Roja
Shorts Cup of Joe
Perennial Saison De Lis
Midnight Sun Brewtality
The Bruery Chocolate Rain
Hill Farmstead - Twilight of the Idols

Highs: RR Temptation, Upland Strawberry, Cascade Apricot, Lou Pepe, Flower Power, Alpine's IPAs, Eclipse, Chocolate Rain and Dissident.
Lows: Alpine's Chez Monieux was terrible. Stinky wet gym socks filled with rotten cheese, and astrigent/acetic flavor. Idiot's Drool was soured and not in a good way - undrinkable by most. Surly SYX was a hot mess - no cohesion and a really weird beer.
Most of the others were also really, really good.

Nice tasting! You reminded me that we had HF Twilight as well on Saturday - totally forgot it on the list. That's a great beer
What'd you think of the others?

If there was a beer festival with all those beers offered, tickets would be $100+.

They were all amazing.
I think BB batch 9000, and Brett Dream stood out the most for me though.
Obviously, we were all in awe of RareR the entire day, so it was difficult to enjoy much else properly

My favorites were the Event Horizon and the Fifty Fifty Elijah Craig 20. I wanted to like the Chocolate Rain more, but really, how much can you drink when the beer gets to be like port?
I thought the Cascade Apricot Ale was excellent. Apricot aromas and flavors came through.
Barrel aged 4 Calling Birds was one of the best tasting 'holiday' ales I've had. It's like spiking your fruit cake with good bourbon. Just pulls all those spices together.
The Temptation was nothing special. Just your typical Russian River amazing world class ale.
The Dissident was delicious. But I thought there was another Flanders style there that was better. I can't remember what it was. Jackie O?
The Enjoy By 2/15 was different than the Enjoy By 12/21, I *think*? Maybe my palate was wrecked already. Pure Hoppiness was the IPA winner. Flower Power was a let down on our end of the table. It was a fresh bottle according to the label date, too. Again, maybe palates were blown out.
I also lost track of the saisons really fast. What I enjoyed though, was that each saison had very distinct flavors and funk. That was cool to try so many of those side by side.
And by far the worst beer ever...EVER...was the Idiot's Drool.

I agree, Event Horizon and Eclipse EC 20 were delicious. Too bad EC 20 is $30+ a bottle...need to do futures next time!
I mixed some Idiot's Drool with Chez Moneiux and drank it. Tasted better than each individually.
But yes, at that point the palates are blown out. Kind of a waste, but tons of fun!

A very random and impromptu bottle share, that started as a buddy stopping by to grab my extra C02 tank, then ended up being a six person romp through the cellar.

Beatification and RareR were the clear stand outs of the bunch.
The Beat was batch 003, and was so smooth, and refreshing. The RareR was still think and chewy, but taken on a bit more wine/and sherry components from the barrels, a must drink fresh beer for sure. Just amazing beers, but all of them were pretty solid.
"Wait...What??? But you've got the Voodoo/Rogue worst beer in the world in that "pretty solid" line-up, OMG!!!1!1!!!11"
Settle down...let me explain.
I for one am very fond of smoked beers, and while it was definitely not the best example I've ever had (and 1/2 the bottle got drain poured anyway), it's most certainly not the worst.
The nose is pure campfire, with a slight sweetness trying to force it's way through. The first 5-6 mouthfuls are extremely overwhelming, boarder line offensive. Get past that though, and something odd happens...sip number 7, after you're mouth has given in to it's new smoke laden overloads, and you get a sublime hickory/cherry wood malt sweetness. The mouth-feel goes from thin to medium, and as long as you don't inhale too deeply, it remains that way. Granted it you eat anything, or even sip water beyond that point, you'll completely reset your taste buds...you'll then be struggling through another 5-6 sips to get back to the enjoyment.

Some beers I had over the past week:

Hanger 24 IPA with a Spicy Salmon Hand Roll

Perfect beer to watch the Superbowl with.

From a trade with the Fryauff man

Chocolate Milkstash, Sweet Milk Stout from Rip Tide, one of the newest breweries in San Diego. Enjoyed last night at Pizza Port Carlsbad.
