    6 Days in Belgium

This Wednesday, I'm making the 5 hr drive up to Belgium where I'll be visiting breweries, abbeys and WWI battle sites for the next 6 days.

I have a travel plan, but would love some of your ideas/suggestions.

Cantillon, De Proef, and Westy if you can.

If you do head to Westy though, make sure you call ahead to make the necessary arrangements, as they'll need your automobile info.

3 Fonteinen, Dupont, a Vapeur, Fantome, Affligem, du Bocq are all worth a stop as well.

Call ahead to wherever you go though, as hours change seasonally, and sporadically...I learned the hard way in Bruges.

Plus all the great village beer bars, and restaurants. You honestly can't go wrong.

    Enjoy!

We're stopping by Westy, but the beer phone wasn't open for pick-up for the days we are in their area.

The cafe is still worth the visit.

Just arrived in Brussels - traffic was a mess with the G8... err, 7 Summit going on. We're headed out to Delirium (300 meters from the hotel).

You're about a 20 minute walk from Cantillon, take the tour (7 euro), and see about the "brewing program"...it's worth it.

At the delerium get a La Rulles blond. Its very nice, doesn't have the name recognition of some of the beers you posted, but its great. Two breweries to visit would be Orval ( pick up some of their cheese while there) and head to Mechlin to visit Hetanker where they make Gouden Carolus. They have a very good restaurant there. Its a short drive from Brussels.

Sorry late to the thread... The Delirium bar I was going to say is a must visit. Go to Brasserie d Achouffe if you can make it as well. You can also ride the world cup course in Houffalize as well as the forests in the area. Lots of really great riding in the area.

Pretty jealous. When I was in Belgium this time last year I didn't get to do much poking around at breweries. I was pretty much limited to what I could find at the grocery, oh well I'll go back some day.

This is one of the (many) things we also love about the European beer culture.

    Hello,
I visited Cantillon last year and really enjoyed it. It's the only working brewery left in Brussels and they make some really excellent beer. It was my first visit of a brewery that does spontaneous fermentation, and I learned a good bit about the process. The place is really small, and the self-guided tour takes less than an hour but you can linger in the tasting room and chat up the folks there if you like.

Catch some good place in the Brussels city center, there's some good pub (not so expensive) in Arenbergstraat street, cross Scandic Grand Place hotel i think and enjoy with one cool "la chouffe" beer..
