    Dear Runer',

    After some months of riding I'm struggling, having he Fox Float CTD , with the choice between the correct SAG ( between 25%- 28%) and the feeling / shock usage.

    If I set the correct SAG than I 'll never be able to use all the shock extension and the bike "seems" nervous in some condition ( fast descending on small medium rough rocks )

    If I forget the SAG and set the shock pressure to maximize the shock extension usage I'll have a smoother feeling.

    With that said where is my mistake ? what is going wrong ?

    Do you have any suggestion on this topic ?

    You are not doing anything wrong. Fox is. Get it Push'ed or use something similar tuning expert and after that it's so much better. Or get better shock like CCDBa.

    I have the fox float x and it does exactly the same thing.. i think my sag is 35% and i still have to hit a good drop or case a decent jump to use the travel. I'm 190lbs too..

    Would the ccdb air or the x fusion vector air hlr be worth it?

    Curious did you try pulling the volume spacer in the shock? IIRC mine had 1 thin spacer in it when I cracked it open. For me I went to a bigger spacer cause I was using all the travel pretty easily since I'm 250lbs. Adding a larger spacer let me run lower pressure but not bottom so easily, removing the spacer may help you use all the travel. I have the stock Fox Float CTD.

    i'd look at avalanche racing and their mod for the float. craig is awesome to deal with and the mod has excellent reviews

    So I just picked up a large banshee rune frame with 26" dropouts, is there any consensus on which wheel size is best? I'll be buying new wheels and forks, and was initially just going to stay with 26, is 27.5 a noticeable difference?

    I keep looking at the webiste.. Hmming and hawing.. Id really like the Cartridge for my Marzocchi 888 cr model as well as send them my Fox Float X. Not cheap though..

    no, not cheap but the general consensus is a drastic improvement. i've had stuff pushed and i had a vanilla rc get the avalanche treatment and there is no cpmarison between the two imho. avalanche is head and shoulders above push

    For me, its pretty noticeable - the grip is better, rolls over stuff easier and keeps crazy momentum..also rides a little higher. I'm sold

    Black Death...
    I finally got this beast built over the weekend. The frame, a medium Rune with 650b dropouts ominously arrived on Friday the 13th after waiting for months. The "Black Death" paint job looks great and I have only taken on a brief lap of my neighborhood trail, but...

    ...holy crap!!! This thing smokes. I have been terribly sick with a horrific cold (pneumonia, I just told people I had the plague) for the last two weeks. I only got out to ride once (I generally ride 3-5 days a week) in the last two weeks and this was for the Pisgah Enduro. I did this on a borrowed bike and combined with my affliction it nearly killed me. Nonetheless, without even trying I increased my average speed by nearly 2 mph. I was concerned that in the slack setting it would be a handful punching up the climbs, but it was not a problem in the least. It motored along without any problem without requiring me to do any heroic out of the saddle efforts.

    On the downhills, well duh...it kills. The Rune is incredibly balanced and stable. I was never thrown off line and it has traction to spare. The biggest thing I took it off of was only a few feet, but it was again incredibly composed. I have a few future additions including either DB Air Inline or DB Air CS (I won one, actually!) and I may jump into some I-9 wheels eventually as they are the wheels du jour here in the South. As built it is just shy of 32 lbs. I am looking to many fun rides ahead and glad to be part of the gang.

    I will have it on shortly. I will share a couple of things though. I was able to build this bike very quickly. It went together with no fuss at all and the frame is rock solid. This has not always been the case as my pal and I have been building bikes in his garage for the last 15 years. He had the same experience with his Banshee and it's nice to see great attention to detail from a small company.

    I have my old DB Air on the bike now and just set it at the base tune. So far so good. The Inline will be even more dialed and weighs about 1/4-1/3 of a lb less. I will report back after riding in Pisgah this weekend

    First mountain ride...
    ...this weekend. I ended up going to ride in Elijay, GA instead of NC. The group included two of my friends, both on Banshee Primes and several other guys. The funniest quote came from my one pal who said: "It's sad how well these bikes climb...". That sums it up quite well. You have no excuses because the Rune and it's Prime brethren climb like no bikes that have the head angle of a DH rig should. My drive train is a 10 speed with a 30t Wolf Tooth front chain ring driving a 10-42t (OneUp). I had no trouble whatsoever and in fact it climbed fast compared to any of my previous rigs. I did not spin out on anything despite the trail being wet and littered with roots, rocks and stream crossings. The pedaling and traction are phenomenal.

    Upon heading back down I rode this bike faster than anything I have ridden before. This was unnerving at times as I could take corners and sloppy sections way faster than I am used to. I am coming off of riding Santa Cruz bikes for years (since '99) having owned two Hecklers, a Bullit, a Nomad and a Butcher. While none of them were slouches, none of them pedaled or handled like the Rune. It blasts thru rock gardens like they are nothing and is amazing in flight. I have now four rides on it so far and my average ride speeds are up 1.5-2mph faster on any of the loops/rides that I normally do. I can't wait to get into even more big rides. Really any rides.

    Last, but not least it is a head-turner. Tons of people ask me what it is and question me about it as you cannot see the graphics with its Black Death color way. Dark and evil. It is the little devil on my shoulder yelling in my ear: "Go faster; Do it now; Obey me, you schmuck!!!" Two wheels; One dark lord indeed. Perfect.

    That's nearly a dead ringer for mine, but I went with some orange accoutrements and Race Face cranks. Oh, and my two-tone Geax pimp shoe tires. BTW, Geax should have named them "Pimp Shoes" instead of "Gomas". They'd sell a ton on name alone. . :thumbsup: :devil:

    I have one in mine. It does improve bottom-out resistance. I put mine in before I ever rode the fork so I may sample it without at some point. However, I am enjoying riding the bike so much (six rides so far) that it has not been an issue. :thumbsup: :devil:

    Congrats on the Rune. Just picked one up myself last month (upgrade from my 2006 Giant AC-1)

    Anyways, don't bin your 26er fork just yet. As it happens, my back-up bike (Giant) has an '09 Fox Talas 150mm with skinny 32mm stanchions. But ya know what?

    It takes my 27.5 front wheel, no problem. :D
    Plenty of clearance (but make no promises if you like your tires fatter than 2.35... guess it depends).

    It should hold you over until the $ comes in for a Pike 27.5 (My choice) or other "real" fork.

    Check it out.


    ---Looking to put the CC DBair CS shock on it.

    Totally depends on your budget. I'd not sell my soul to keep on my 27.5 wheels but I sure do like 'em. It was a priority for me but I had that luxury (rode a 27.5 Carbine for 3-4 months and I LIKED it).

    --- But I could also get a lighter fork as well.. Xfusion sweep or a Pike.. ----but are those too light??

    I was set on getting a new wheel set (26er). Keeping my RC2DH Lyrik and upgrading to X01.

    Now I'm thinking about changing to 650B aswell. New Fork would be a Mattoc or Pike. I'm torn. Can't decide. What do you guys think? No Money for X01 + Fork + Wheelset :P

    27.5 works awesome on the Rune. You can find plenty of deals on wheelsets to get you rolling (pun-intended). I scored a set of WTB i23/SRAM Santa Cruz built that were a take-off from a Bronson for $220 on eBay.

    The Pike is tough to beat. Simple and bombproof; it works great right out of the box. Again, look for deals.

    Finally, XO1 is swell and all, but for around $200 you can convert an existing 10 speed with hop-ups from Wolf Tooth, OneUp, etc. or wait until August for the 1X stuff that you can get into for $600. I have the former and it works great.

    I would like to have a wheelset build to my preferences. It would cost me ~600€.

    Hmm lets talk about weight savings. I guess going for X01 saves more than converting a Lyrik to a Pike/Mattoc. (I'm running 2x10 X9 atm)

    naaa actually i dont care to much about weight saving in the rune is just if i and riding a hard trail fast is more easy for me if i am on a XO1 but this is personal preference lol i have previously a 2x10 X0 on my rune and now put the X01 and i dont know for feel more nice so i put the 2x10 and XC rig and i dont even know why i have better climbing strava time on my banshee with X01 than my XC 21 pound bike with 2x10 setup is just crazy loool

    I´d keep the Lyrik and get a X01/selfmade 11spd and keep the 26" wheels.

    The 1x11 really is nice and simple. If your Lyrik is in good condition, keep it.
    Also maybe Rock Shox will come out with a Drop In Charger Upgrade for the Lyrik, like they did for the Boxxer?

    Out for a spin today, first ride, kind of a "shake down" really.

    The suspension performance is awesome.
    Really is superior to the FSR of my previous '10 Enduro.
    I'm able to run much lower pressure on the same shock (Monarch+): better small bump sensibility and still able to resist bottom out.
    The Pike is very good, but still is not superior to the Lyrik RC2DH that I had on the Enduro.

    I'm using a 1x10 set up, with 42 Oneup cog (with accessory 16t sprocket) and a Hope Wide Narrow 32 chainring. Really enjoying the set up. The 16t is not as smoth as the standard SRAM sprockets, but manageable... but the range is wide enough for the riding I do, including some technical and hard climbs. Maybe a faster top gear would be nice...

    Bottom line: awesome frame, good fork, good transmission.

    For those trying to decide between upgrading fork or transmission:
    If you already have a good fork (like the Lyrik), I definitely would go for transmission upgrade. I find it is much more noticeable the transmission upgrade thant the fork upgrade.

    That said, I'm still on 26 wheels (although the Pike is a 27,5) but as soon as my budget allows it, I'll make the change to 27,5.
    After all, that was the main reason for me to change from the Enduro to the Rune.

    What do you think about the Metric/Rune V2 combo ? I live in France, and there aren't a lot of Metric here so i wonder which fork could i put in the front of my future Banshee (heheheeee, future proud owner ;-) ?
    I weigh 93 kgs without clothes and i live just near the Alps, in Nice......

    Both for 2014 Rune... both for the CCDB Air CS XV, but verry different...

    Edit: The tune chart on the CaneCreek page is without XV can. But can this make such a difference?

    Plus, since you live near the Alps, I'm sure you have some sweet trails, worthy of the rune.

    Regarding the fork, can't tell you about the metric, I haven't even seen one yet, but I can tell you the pike is a very sweet (smooth) match.

    Guys,

    I'm 6'5 with a 39" inseam and i got my eyes set on the rune. Got ahold of a guy here in Sweden that rides a L spitty with a 60mm stem, who is the same lenght as me but has a 36.5" inseam.

    So without actually riding one and just going by the geo chart i should be able to fit on a XL rune. Are there any guys here who are my length and have ridden or ownes a rune and can tell me if this is doable? Also, if you have any ride pics or pics with you on the bike (riding or just sitting on it) that would be absolutley perfect!

    Also: to the banshee guys, ever thought of doing a XXL size or at least making the headtube longer on the XL size??

    I know a guy who is 6'7 who rode an XL rune with I think an 80mm or 90mm stem? He also noticed the short headtube on the bike. Ran a ton of spacers under the stem to get the height appropriate.

    I'm 6'0 an have a long back and rode an XL with a 50mm stem. It worked well, but I would not have been able to go with ANY more stem length on that frame.

    I think at 6.5" you will struggle on the XL

    I´m 6.1 (186cm) and ride a large Rune V2 with 40mm stem. Sometimes I think that I should have chosen an XL.

    With 6.5 I see no chance to fit on a large one!

    The headtube is indeed a bit short for tall guys. I use a 38mm bar, a headset with tall cover and a lot of spacers underneath the stem (wich has 6° angle). Dosen´t look good, but works fine...

    When people mentioning things like that, they often tinker about doing similar things in the back of their heads...

    Ya, I really *really* want it to work. Banshees geometry is in between turners XL and XXL for most parts so i think/hope/want it to work and hopefully i wont have to have a stem, or a saddle post, that's the size of a submarine periscope on a XL frame..

    Converted to 650B
    Converted my Rune to 650B over the weekend. Took it out for the first ride yesterday. Previously I was running a Coil Lyrik RC2DH and the Fox CTD that came stock with the Frame. Went with a 2014 RS Pike 160 Solo Air RCT3 and a CC DB Air with the XV can. Threw on a set of 650 drops and laced up a set of WTB Frequency Team I25's to my set of Hope Pro 2's. Finished it off with a pair of Specialized Butcher Control 2.3's.

    Thoughts? I dropped a pound by going with the Pike over the Lyrik. The bike now weighs 30lbs even. That being said I am very impressed with the fork right out of the gate. The fork is very plush right out of the box, it rides high in the travel and feels very controlled. I didn't notice any difference in stiffness compared to the Lyrik and that is including the 15mm Thru axle. Plus it looks great as well.

    As for the DB air? AWESOME! I hated the CTD shock and the DB Air is a revelation. What a shock. The rear feels far more planted and controlled. The CTD blew through its travel as the DB air does not. Plenty of mid stroke support with a nice ramp up at the end. Basically the bike feels lively in the rear compared to the mushy flat tire feeling it had before. Great upgrade. I went with the base settings off of the the Banshee site and then tweaked them to reflect the settings used in the Pinkbike DB air review (which was tested on a Rune). I may or may not tweak them a little more but as it stands the set up I have at the moment rocks and don't really see the need to change it.

    And now the 650B. Honestly It is not a huge difference. I do not notice any difference in the way the bike handles (which is a good thing). It does ride a little taller but that feeling disappeared on the trail. Feels plenty playful and handles almost like the 26. What I do notice is that I was able to carry momentum a little better and that the cornering felt a little faster. Felt like it rolled over chunk a little better as well. A worthy upgrade? Put it this way: If you are going for a new fork and wheel set? Why not?

    I am very stoked with my Rune in its new clothing.

    My Rune is set up almost the same as yours. IMHO, that extra speed, roll-over ability and momentum retention is worth it. I cannot think of anytime that I had wished I was on 26" wheels since building it. :devil:

    No bike will ever be so good that it compensates a poor fit. Get something thats fits your tall ass!

    @ tugamik : Pike seem to be a little bit flexy for my weight, first i should try one to see.....The new Fox 36 or the Bos deville in 27.5" might be a good choice for this frame :p

    I was just reading your post re your ctd shock.
    I felt exactly the same way on my new spitfire, the Trail mode was pathetic, descend no support and climb mode was ok.
    I added a small volume spacer and it transformed shock. I ran about the same sag (was actually about 10psi less) the shock then accelerated and skipped over the rough whilst still having good small bump compliance.
    The climb mode was still good even for bombing down, but the trail setting completely useless/pointless.

    I still have my old isx6 from my v1 rune. I have not been able to get that to perform quite as good as the fox ctd to be honest. I have to run too much sag to get it to feel right(to improve small bump compliance), and the downside of this is it doesnt climb as well.

    There is another problem with the ctd i have found it does not handle a prolonged rugged descent. The damping goes out the window, the rebound ends up like a pogo stick till it cools down again.

    I would love to try a CCDB or the Xfusion HLR Air tuned for the spitfire

    Thats my 2cents i guess what im saying is get the volume reducers and give it a go.

    just my 2 cents...

    @pit: I'm a pretty heavy guy (90kg+gear) and ride aggressively (sometimes). Don't feel that the Pike is flexy. Previously had a Lyrik and stifness is pretty close. That said, never tried an Fox 36 nor a Bos to really be able to compare.

    @tokrot: ever considered a Monarch plus? That is what I have on my Rune. Only can say good things about it. Good small bump compliance, good support, consistent damping on large descents. And you can find a Monarch for half the price of a CCDB.
    I'm running 185psi on a Mid-comp Mid-rebound tune. But I've read some threads that suggested that lighter riders would benefit from a Light-comp tune.

    Depends what position you have the dropouts. I can just squeeze a maxis ardent race 2.2 into the neutral position.

    If i go slack I can fit a 2.3 HRII or 2.3 Minion.

    So to have enough clearance you will probably have to be in the slackest setting.

    why do you want to remove the decals? maybe you can use a sand paper or get the frame to a local auto paint shop and paint the bike like you want

    not to throw another into the mix, but i just picked up a Marzocchi 350 CR...it is monstrously stiff compared to the XFusion Sweep that it is replacing. pretty stunning fork and i'm looking forward to some real ride time.

    They are spacers for the is brake mounts, some of the dropouts (142 only I think) had the brake mounts done incorrectly and for some brakes u need the spacers installed to properly center the calipers, I believe they fixed this on newr dropouts

    I liked my Z150 a lot in the past.....the return of Marzocchi in the enduro arena in 27'5 ? Moreover the price is interesting...I don't know what will be the difference with the NCR :???:

    Here's a pic of the bike with the new fork, no close ups of the fork on my phone but I can snag some later.

    Yesterday was my first ride on the fork and it has a bit of stickiness in the first bit of the travel, but I am assuming it will improve over time. Smoothness was already much better than my 4 month old XFusion Sweep.

    I don't have the air pressure quite right yet but it is close, and the fork rides very high in its travel. I'm running LSC in the middle of the spectrum, rebound nearly in the middle as well with a slight bias toward faster, and the fork absolutely blew me away when the going got rough. The massive arch gives the fork unreal torsional rigidity, and there was no sense of deflection even in chunky off camber corners.

    Responding to an earlier question, I decided not to wait for the NCR because a) this fork's damping system sounds extremely similar less the ability to tweak HSR via shim stack adjustments and the lock out switch, and b) I scored it for less than $600 on Jenson.

    I also just sold my CCDB Air CS in favor of the Avalanche-tuned Fox CTD shown in the picture. Not only is the Avalanche shock feeling far better than the CCDB on this bike, but I also came away with some money when the swap was all said and done. My only concern is that the CTD will heat up on some longer, rougher downhills, but I blasted it pretty hard yesterday down a 5 minute downhill trail without any issue.

    Part of this could be an overly strong initial reaction, but this may be the best suspension setup that I have had yet on a bike.

    Avy doesn't sell the shocks themselves, you'll have to buy a Float CTD and send the shock in. I managed to find a barely used CTD for $200, plus another $200 for the tune and new internals. The saddle is a Chromag Trailmaster LTD.

    If this fork is as stiff as you said, moreover not very expensive (compared to fox etc...), it might be a good deal.

    Hi!

    I need your help to figure the math.

    My banshee has like 64,5 or 64 HA headtube angle with Deville fork 170mm. Its length from axle to crown is 558mm (Im running 26" wheels").

    I need to know the exact measure of HA on medium setting so I figure out what angle cup (from Works components) I'm going to have 66.5 HA in medium setting.

    Let's say if my frame is 64.5HA then I would order 2.0 degree angle cups.
