If everyone is loving these Neon Green Rune frames I have a brand new one with 27.5 dropouts in size small, sat in the box ready sell.

Bought for my wife who has injured her hand in a race in October so no longer needs the frame.

Give me a shout if anyone wants this awesome frame. It also comes with the CCDB Air CS ;)

    My rad Rune
    Hello fellow Rune rider,

Just got my new Rune built up. I decided on it based on the glowing reviews from everyone here on this community. This is easily the best reference for the Banshee Rune anywhere.

Got my first ride on it the other day. Once I got my fork dialed it, it was MONEY! Climb well, descended better. Jumped great. Felt almost as easy to trick as my Deity. This bike does it all.

One of the main reasons I ended up on the Rune was the amount of flexibility it gives you. I wanted to be able to Rune my Havoc UST 150 DH wheelset, and all of the drop-out options meant that I was able to do just that.

Here is a quick build list:
Banshee Rune, CCBD Air CS, Marzocchi 55 RC3 Ti, Havoc 150 UST, Specialized Butcher 2.3 Grid tires, E13 LG1+ Cranks and chainguide, Reverb, Zee Rr. Der. and Shifter, RF NW 30t chainring, 11-36 SRAM 1070 cass., XT Brakes with 200/180 Ice Tech Rotors, Deity DC31 Mohawk carbon bar, Easton Haven 55mm stem, Easton lock-ons, Deity saddle. 33 lbs, 2 oz./ 15,03 kg. (with Shimano M520 SPDs)

It is just pushed WAY too far forward which is why I questioned the top tube length for you. Not only does it look goofy it is prone to bending the rails. Look at 99.999% of other bikes setups...
  • 12-26-2013
    cockymonster
the rails are at the legit max, not beyond. i ride the saddles like that on all bikes. it's not a matter of top tube length, but of power transfer, especially since i have to pull the seat post out all the way when riding uphill (and thus am far back over the rear wheel)
i wouldn't mind a 2 degree steeper seat angle in the low /slack setting!

some damn nice runes.. Keep em coming.

    Heres my update.

My awesome MiL got me a rad work stand for Christmas so I threw some parts together.

Mine wont be super uber sexy as Im buying all nicely used parts and using parts from my last bike.. but heres the build so far:

650b except for rear dropouts, the rear tire fits but not much space, might have to bite the bullet and order the right dropouts.

    Fox float X
Spank oozy rims laced to Chris King hubs w/ hans dampf and racing ralph rubber. they are tubeless right now but not holding air, gotta buy sealant ... sure seems like a pain in the butt??
    Xt brakes 203 fr 180R
    reverb dropper
    gravity light bar
2013 fox float 34 650b fork, still need to send in for 2014 update.
race face stem on there but that will be upgraded as well.
    going to try 1x10
Just ordered a BB and a 32 tooth Race face Narrow/wide that will go on a sram x-5 cranks with a bashring. Rear cassette is 11-36

I had it in the neutral setting. Bike ran awesome in that setting too but I noticed that i flip the travel adjust pretty quick when I'm approaching a climb so the front end gets low enough to get up the hills. Even when i'm in 160mm and the bike is slack it still climbs well enough.

so is suppose to be more agressive going uphill on steep mode?? loool i ask cause i really doing great uphill in slack mode i also have a 160mm fork. so the noob question is slack is for dh and steep is uphill ?

Yes, the lower setting slackens out the front slightly and drops the BB a wee bit, noticeably better for descending in my experience.

That being said I typically have it the the middle or neutral setting as I found this the best all round compromise between climbing and descending. Ascending steep sharp switchbacks, I could not keep on line or the front down in the low setting, while in the middle setting (with a lot of body language) I can clear those sections. You really need to play around with the settings and work out whats best for your terrain and style of riding.

Was swinging between yeti sb66 tracer 2 and nomad.and been stalking this forum for a long time. Thanks to Jay, Keith and Xavier finally got my Black on Black Rune V2.

Here is a quick build list:

CCBD Air CS, Rockshox Pike DPA, Crank Bro Iodine 3, Conti XKing and Conti Mountain King, E13 LG1+ Taco Guard, E13 37T chainring, Reverb Seatpost (non stealth), Saint M820 Rr. Der. and Shifter, RF NW 30t chainring, 11-38 XTR cass., Saint M820 Brakes with 160Ice Tech Rotors, Easton Havoc carbon bar,

Left LBS in too much hurry didn't weight the newly minted weapon.

Went for my first ride, still perplexed how to tune the ccdb air cs shock. The runs down the hill Feels way faster from where I come from.

The uphill with the climb switch is supposed to be more enjoyable. But my weak legs just aren't helping. Thinking if to move to smaller chain ring or go back to 2x10. Decisions decisions.

I demoed a carbon Bronson and a few friends have them. Popular bike here in Cali. The Rune is different & I like that fact as I never follow the herd. The Bronson has more upright dated geo which I don't care for. It was a pretty fun ride but typical VPP fashion it felt a bit dead and lazy in the travel . I would give it a slight nod in climbing over the Rune (real close) but the rest of the ride the Rune wins hands down weather its flowy switchbacks or rocky steep DH and even jumping its just a much more fun playful ride. The overall fit and geometry is spot on for the Rune and just screams (like a Banshee) confidence!

Edit- Don't think this is a biased post either as I am not partial to any brand, I have had the Rune for about a year and will be changing soon as I simply try a new bike every year or so, part of the fun in the sport for me. Next up is the Norco Range carbon or Knolly Warden.

    just 2 questions?
are riding with 650? I'm asking because looking at the geo the bb is way higher than the Bronson. I wonder if the handling reflects it with a nimble feeling on fast turns

What sort of stack height under your stem is everyone running? I only have room for 10mm, but with the 35mm havoc stem, this means my shifters hit the to tube when the bars spin. Not a major issue, but I don't want to trash the top tube if (/when) I crash!!!!
  • 01-10-2014

2cm spacers and 1" 720mm riser bars on L frame gives about 30mm between top tube and shifters.

Hmm, reckon another 5mm would clear it, but I've concerns with the steerer tube/stem interface as the steerer tube is about 3mm below the stem top already.
I've put extra tape on the impact area and slackened the bits on the shifters slightly, hopefully if it happens the shifters will rotate out of the way and soften hit!

The rune has a 40mm longer TT than my old bike, that had 65mm stem, hence the 35mm stem. Height was determined by the existing fork steerer length. Feels good, just hope I don't bin it!

    Hello guys,

Maybe this has been addresed before in this thread, but there's 70 pages of posts, so please excuse me if I missed the answer somewhere.

I am currently in a market for a new AM bike and I real like this new Rune 2014 amongst the others. I just wonder if any of you can compare this bike to some other competitors regarding climbing capabilities on longer climbs. What i mean is, can you notice a difference in weight against some lighter weight frames, since there can be a difference of up to 800g. Regardless of frame, i am going to build it with same components, so the weight difference will only be in frame.

Would you recomend me this bike for lets say 20-30km climbs, 1500-2000 vertical ascent?

I know i could build lighter bike (i've been looking at liteville 301, enduro , SC nomad... ), but i am fairly aggresive rider when going down and i don't want to worry about bike durability and quite importantly i realy like this new Rune.

For information, now i ride specialized enduro s works 2006 (15.5kg) which realy takes alot of energy on steep long climbs. I tend to build Rune in at around 13-13,5kg. What do you think, will it climb alot better or just slightly. And how would you compare climb capability of Rune built at 13kg to another AM rig at lets say 12kg due to lighter frame.

I know my questions may seem a bit silly, but i just didn't have a chance to ride alot of other bikes, so i'm asking here for some directions.

Will appreciate any relevant informations and thoughts.

The Rune will climb. I wouldn't say it is an awesome climber but it does get up the hill. The rear is really active while climbing, not from bobbing but from obstacles in the trail so you get a lot of great traction. The weight can be noticeable the longer the climb and personally when I climb the bike I need to drop my fork. Otherwise the bike feels slack, because it is. Keep in mind I have mind in the slack setting. The only other setting i tried was the neutral setting. Mine is just under 31lbs, with XX1 a short stem and 31.5" bars. I'm sure you can set the bike up much better for climbing than I have. You said you're an aggressive descender, if that is the case this bike is pretty unreal. I haven't been on many of the Rune's competitors but my buddies have and they've ridden my bike. They all comment on how stable the bike feels in all aspects of riding.

    Mine's about 14.5kg, 1x10 34t 11-36t and is in the slack setting.
I've only done one ride which was 35km and 1000 metres of climbing on technical rocky sections. I've go the CCDB Air with CS and it climbs far better than I was expecting it too. I've had an Orange Five for the last 5 years and it's noticeably more tractable than that was. Can't say I noticed the weight tbh. You sound like a similar rider to me, uphills are necessary just to get to the good bits??
Even if it was a pig on the climbs, I wouldn't mind, because the way it descends is just awesome compared to my old single pivot. I instntly felt at home on it and was throwing it about like my downhill bike after about 5 miles.
Maybe it's 'new bike love' but I can honestly say it has blown me away with just how good it is, get one with a CCDB Air CS and you won't be disappointed.

    Thanks for the answers guys.
Yes i do have to earn my downhills, thats why i'm looking for good climber/descender. I also have a Demo 8, but i only use it in bikeparks. I even use my enduro bike when i get a shutle to my local hill, cuz the ride is much more fun comparing to demo slugish feel if trails are not steep/fast enough.
And i was thinking about rune ccdb air cs option yes.
I am also considering Spitfire with DBair CS. I've seen people say it climbs realy good and descents same or better then some other 160 bikes.
Every now and then we also go for a all day tour, on which i would be more confortable with lighter trail bike, but i can't have a whole arsenal of bikes in my garage. Thats why i'm having such a hard time deiciding on which bike to get.

I am looking at the raceface next SL for my Rune V2. I am a noob when it comes to bottom bracket format. Can someone tell me which one do I need(format, spacer needed??)? Many thanks

73mm shell, external cups so 1 spacer behind the drive side cup.

Thank you! Excuse my noobness. 73mm refers to the bb, for cranks I only hv to choose between single chainring/2x and 170/175 length right? Is spacer a must and does it come with the bb? Thanks again

Yes, that's right. The spacer will come with the bottom bracket. It'll probably come with 3 which is for a 68mm shell.

Just a question. And please don't get mad at me. Why are you buying the highest end racing crank and you don't even know the basic standard your bike is?
