    WA Riding

    Hi folks,

There's a strong chance that we may be emigrating to Perth later this year. Anyone have any links to good riding groups/sites so I can get excited about riding in dry conditions more often that I can in the UK!

Where's the best riding in the area? The only mountain I can rememebr going up last time I was out there was Mt Bruce in the North but I do remember riding some great singletrack, just can;t think where it was (it was 10 years ago mind)

I also have a road bike so can see myself out on that a bit more and hopefully get myself really fit again.

    Cheers

    Rich

There are a few good trails reasonably close to perth (~30mins) and more further away. The Perth MTB club website is a good place to start. I recomend hooking up with a local to start you off as a lot of the better trails (espicially in the Kalamunda region close to Perth) are not sign posted or that easy to find.

There are plenty of helpfull people once you get here tho!

    hey

    Hey Marmoset,

I'm in Perth & would be happy to introduce you to some riding folks.

When will you venture this way? The PMBC XC season starts soon plus there are heaps of enduro events over the winter. Check out www.perthmtb.asn.au & the XC calendar's on the front page.

The tracks round Perth are good but ya can't beat Dwellingup (Turner Hill ) and a bit further south in Dardanup-Pile Road

    Another site is www.hucktoflat.com

You'll get used to the pea gravel quickly .

    Thanks cdnkiwi,

We may be coming over for a reccie in several weeks time but I don;t see us getting over there full time until something like Aug/Sept and then it's the long wait for the bikes to land!

I'll get in touch when we do get over there

    hey Rich,

I'm in Perth too. It wasn't long ago that i was new to WA so I probably don't know all the spots. I chatted to guys at bike shops about where to ride as well as having a browse through the 'explore' section of the garmin connect website ( http://connect.garmin.com/explore#so...&currentPage=1 ). If you use a garmin you can download other rides guys have done and follow them. It also depends on what you like to ride.

You probably need to drive 30 minutes from the city to find anything decent, but out in the hills (Kalamunda, Mundaring, Glen Forrest) there's trails a plenty. I'd also don't mind showing you the bits I know once you're over.

Thanks for the offers all, I'll definitely be in touch if we make it over. Could do with some warm rides, took a tumble on ice on the road bike this morning and it hurt waaay more than gravel rash!

I've accepted a job that should see me starting over there in August, with the bikes following on several weeks later (how does one justify flying a bike over instead of clothes?)

Have had to put my plans for a new FS bike on hold though....

Looking forward to riding some drier trails aand hopefully meeting a few of you

Hello mate. I'm moving over there from Vic in the new year so I'll be looking to sniff out some sweet trails too. Get some good reconnaissance in then you can fill me in when I get there!

There's a book about to go on sale called Western Australia Mountain Bike Guide. It's been getting good reviews http://www.mtbguidebook.com

    Happy hunting

    Hi all,

Made it over, been here about 4 months and the bikes have beeen with me for just over 2.5 months. Not done much mountain biking apart from 15km on the munda biddi last week, it's all been commuting and road biking and I'm mising the dirt. Are there any regular rides happening anywhere?

    Cheers

Damn it Marmoset! Your mission was to attain an intimate knowledge of the local trails.....and then pass this information on to me when I arrive in Perth. In this you have failed miserably!

There are still eight weeks until I require a full briefing.....get out there and ride!
