    Never again...

...will I travel interstate for a bike race. The race organisers did the right thing by cancelling the Angry Doctor due to all the damage caused by last night's storm, but I won't put myself in the same position again. What a monumental waste of time and money.

I'll be restricting myself to events I can get to, compete in and return to home the same day.

    Lesson learned.

What is with the 'no refunds' policy of mtb event promoters? What, you mean to say they don't have any cash reserves at all?

Paying for first aid, generators, Emergency Services, things to eat, staff, merch...I get all that. But if they are out to make a profit, why not refund what they made after expenses?

Did you end up doing one of the 20km loops that they advertised on their site? What was the mood in the camp?
Ego maniacs please object to my posts.

I wasn't concerned with no refund. I would have like to see AROC make some effort to reschedule though.

From the Angry Doctor thread on Rotorburn comes a very interesting ammendment made to the Refund section of the terms and conditions.

    Before...

    And after...

I didn't hang around for the 20km race. Seriously, if you were just considering a social ride, there's no way anyone in their right mind would attempt to ride in those conditions. Apparently the short race was a farce, and ended with one fellow being air-lifted to hospital in Sydney suffering from a dislocated hip when he crashed at 60km/h trying to avoid another rider who had crashed on a water bar. The thread on Rotorburn has more details.

When there is as much money invested as there was here you expect better.

I guess it has been a weekend of freak weather, but the lack of a decent plan b or any contingency is an issue.

Modifying terms and conditions after people have signed up is clearly not on. It will be interesting to see what happens. It is frustrating when things locally are cancelled - i can imagine how annoying it must be after a six or seven hour drive!

Never mind. There's a lot of people a lot worse off in this world than a couple of hundred disappointed mountain bike riders.
