    Hi,

I am going to Beijing in Mid Jan 2014. Anyone knows where I can ride or can hook me up with someone or a group for a ride?

    thanks,

There are mountains around Beijing, but the max temp in mid January is maybe 0 to -5c in town, go up a hill you're looking at possibly -5c to -10c. There's OK skiing in northern Hebei and some smaller hills around Beijing, mostly snow-machine snow, because it's very dry in this region of Northern China. If you ski or board it might be a better sport to choose. Weather warms up in late February.

    Pack your ski gear anyhow.

    Thanks for the info
I have only tried skiing once in my life so are the slopes beginner friendly ?
Do these hills have ski gear rentals ?

All the ski hills are beginner friendly, in fact finding competent instruction and intermediate and advanced runs are difficult. Skiing is usually quite expensive worldwide, but in China it's maybe a tad less expensive. Rentals are easy to find at any hill. Avoid weekends, less people and cheaper prices.
