I'll shortly be going to HK to work on a Project in Tseung Kwan O, and I would like if at all possible to take my MTB along to use as a commuter bike during the week, then hit some trails on the weekend. I think it would drive me crazy having to get the MTR everyday, plus i'd drive the other commuters crazy on the return leg, smelling of sweat and leachate !
For those already riding in HK, I'd be grateful if you could give answers on the following:
1. Is it legal to ride on the road on HK island ?
2. Is it legal to ride on the road on NT side ?
3. Is it possible to go through the tunnels with a bike?
4 . How safe is it in HK. For eg, can you leave your bike outside a shop, pop in, return and it still be there ? (no guarantees..... )
I haven't started looking for hotels yet - I'll be staying for 4 - 8 weeks so I might look for a small unit if it is possible to rent on a monthly basis. If going through the tunnel to HK Island isn't possible then that may decide the location.
