    Looking for Thailand base

We're looking for a place in Thailand where we can rent a house for a month or so and and go off exploring on MTB's every day. We have no need for gnarly DH or shuttle rides, just a maze of dirt roads and tracks.

we're looking at Chang Rai. Any ideas?

I'm in Chiang Mai. Tons of riding here. Plenty of DH stuff. Tons of XC stuff as well. The local riders have a facebook page called broke back mountain bikers. They have no idea what "broke back" implies in the US.

I'd recommend Fang as a base of northern Thailand operations. Cheaper and more laid back than Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai. Nice Lana community, There is a very nice/reasonably priced Lana run hotel in the heart of town which would serve well as a base.

Agree with both 'advices' above Another option would be a cheap hotel or guesthouse in CM, of which there are many. The house sounds like fun but a lot of people don't want to rent out their (decent) house for less than a year (maybe 6 months) and there's a one or two month deposit as well. You have to set up internet and look after the place and likely buy stuff to fill in the gaps that the owner didn't provide- a bit of a hassle really if you're just coming to ride for a couple of months. Guesthouse will handle all that for you with minimal or no commitment.
