Where are all the pre dawn riders ?
Been out 7 times in the past month on pre dawn rides starting at about 5:15 AM.... why am I the only one out there ??
riding deems, PSP, Scottsdale Preserve (windagte area), Cave Creek park...
I have seen runners/joggers though...
-
Now that Wx is nice....no one is forced to do it before the sun hits.....I transitioned to mid-day rides a few weeks ago and it's glorious....no runners/joggers either.
-
Too cold..I gotta wait til it warms to 80 to energize.
Bender to AZDog: I'm not the best person to give advice on not riding!

I have to be at work at 7AM... during the week I have to start early... Thought maybe other folks were in the same boat ??

I'm usually out Mondays and Tuesdays @ 515ish before the wife goes to work, but I live on the east side Hawes, Usery, and GC are where I ride.

During the week I start work at 6am. It is too dark to ride before 6:15 and it is cold. Last week I was staying a time share in south scottsdale with my inlaws and was able to bike to work. It is cold at 6:00 am and did I mention dark? I don't have lights and don't want to get them. On the weekends I still ride early. Probalby will be out at 6:45 this sunday for a long BCT ride. Goal is EH trailhead to table mesa road and back at brisk semi-race pace. 23 miles. Figure it is good training for Cave Creek Bike Fest 24 mile race the weekend after. I also hope to get a nice road bike ride in afterwork today.

2003 KHS Alite 4000 26" Hardtail - XC, All mountain, blah blah blah.. I just ride.

Pretty much this...
And I've been working from home more lately, so I haven't needed to be done by 7 am so I can get into the office. I've gone out at 6-6:30 am, or later afternoon, lately, during the week...

I have scientist hours so I don't have to show up until about 10am, so I'm out at 6:30am for about 2 hours, once or twice a week at PMP DD area. I haven't seen much of any riders on the trail yet. I just moved over yonder the beginning of Oct, and just last week got back on the horse, so maybe it's an anomaly. But yeah, I like the early morning spin. Takes the edge off of work.

I'll go out at 5 am once or twice a week. Ride PMP from 7th st/Thunderbird; It's nice to get in a couple of hours before work. That being said, I'll just be riding my road bike for the next 6 weeks due to a schedule change. I can get in 2 hours on the road from my door, I have to drive to the trailhead. It's not nearly as fun, but beggars can't be choosers.
I think I'm not as good as I thought.

With consistently perfect weather almost everyday, people get choosy and ride when it's perfect if they can. 5am is summer riding time and that's fortunately gone for the year. Nobody wants to ride when it's 58F if they're able to ride at 8am when its in the 70's.

I suffer from sleep inertia, i.e. love to stay up late. I went to ride SMP this am got up at 6:45 - that was tough. Work starts at 9am. Not one person at the Dixie loop I had it all to myself.
-
5:15 and I am already thinking lunch! But then again I start work at 4am.

Does this mean that at 110 degrees you are super/extra energize?
-
It's that first 15 minutes before my body warms up that makes me wimp out on these cooler mornings. Once I push through it, I am fine though!

damn you know we have some thin blooded folks when 50s is considered too cold... I used to ride in the teens when I lived in WVA

Shifted to night rides sometime this summer and never went back...
No napping at work or 10:45 lunch runs...

If I tried to ride at 5:15, I would be sleeping in the parking lot before I unloaded the bike. I've been on a Tuesday afternoon kick for riding. Just happens to be my day off and I still get to sleep in. On that note I'll be at Deems Tuesday afternoon working on my fitness.

I might start in Cave Creek rec tomorrow early (6:30). Ill start with lights for a.bit
Sent from my mountain bike while crashing
I love it when a plan comes together.

I ride So Mtn during the week since work is right there. I've seen quite a few other riders in the early morning dark...

Yeah, they're waiting for June. No one really wants to go out that early if they have the choice, right?

A small group of us ride Somo nearly every Tue. and Thurs. morning at 5 am. I have to be at work by 7 and play daddy every afternoon so this is really my only option.
