What do you think about this?

Here is a new type of mountain bike and cross country running race- The promoters at Arizona OffRoad Promotions are planning on doing this in 2013.

Its called Mountain X Fitness Challenge (its on facebook)

    First of its Kind Ever!

    MOUNTAIN-X FITNESS CHALLENGE
“ONE Bike and ONE pair of Shoes”

April 6, 2013 Location “Thunder Rock Ranch” Congress, AZ
    &
August 3, 2013 “TBA” Northern Arizona

    3-4 Hour Race
One Mountain Bike Racer partnered up with One Cross Country Runner
4 Mile Mountain Bike Trail and a 3 Mile Cross Country Trail
    Two Person team.
Can take turns racing the bike and running or one person can do the mountain bike and the other can do the running- up to you!
    Ironman- Do it all yourself!

We might offer just a mountain bike class and just a running class as well- still working out the details. Give us your input.

Is it a race or a class? And you have to wear the same shoes?
4 miles on a bike is too short.

    I'm confused

As many laps as possible in 3 or 4 hours?
I think I'm not as good as I thought.

Might be kinda hard to get enough people that can find a running partner or mountain bike partner to field a good turnout.

Depending on the mtb trail and running course. 4 miles on the bike can be done in half the time of a 3 mile run. Running times and bike times need to be equal.

How long do you think the run should be? They are looking for input to make this a really fun and challenging event.

Sounds good; but make each element at least one hour.
I think you noted it would be 3-4 hrs? Unsure how it could take that long to do the distances you propose.
a duathalon; I like the idea of doing both.
Make sure that you have an over 65 category....and even over 70.....to encourage participation from some of us senior riders.
I may be slow; but watch me go
    cheers.

If I'm reading this right, it's going to be tough to field a team that both people wear the same size shoes so they can share that one pair.

Sounds like a fun race but I agree that the distances need to be slightly longer, I also agree with spring for 1 hour for each part.

I take it this is similar to the Dirty Duo in BC, or the Round the Mountain 20K Trail Run / Trek / MTB Race, Virginia Off-Road series, or a true duathalon like the Dirty Spokes Productions Georgia Off-Road Duathlon Series (and they offer it as teamed up event as well), etc. I'm sure there are more that are pretty close...

I see you can have a different person for each discipline and each contestant doesn't have to do at least a lap of the event... or they can opt to do it all.

Not exactly new or first of it's kind...but here in AZ it may be. I'm sure some racers would love another race series...

NO, you would wear your own pair of shoes, that is just the slogan!

It was just meant to say you need a bike and a pair of shoes to do this race- they are still looking for ideas to make this really successful. All input is wanted to make this a really fun race for all. Please keep passing the word along about this and have people tell us some great ideas.

DCB (I think) used to run a duatholon in Feb out at McDowell Mtn Park. Format was as follows:
    - 5K trail run
    - 8.4 or 16.8 MTB ride (one or two laps of the Long Loop at the Comp Tracks at MMP)
    - 5K trail run (same as the first leg)

The participant chose the MTB distance - one or two laps. I don't recall a relay option, where one person could do the runs, and another the bike. I did the two lap option a number of years ago, and that second run leg was HARD!!

Dave Sewell (GO Adventures) runs a duathlon up in Prescott in March: 1.5 mi run, 8 mile MTB, 1.5 mi run (my recollection of the distances may be off). You could do that as a relay, with one or more runners, and one rider.

Not sure what you're thinking for format, but you need a meatier (IMO) MTB option (at least 8 miles), and I like giving teams the choice of soloing it, or doing a relay combo. But make it longer, or give the option for longer.

Also, have some feature, or do something to make it memorable. OP has the 7 B*tches, and the Option; the Barn Burner has a barn, etc. Short and boring won't get any attention.

    Just my two-cents worth...
    Ride more; post less...

Hey partner. You wouldn't be about 4E wide too, by chance?
