    thxgiving day c-ride

where: desert classic, south mountain. starting from san gabriel to avoid the parking hassle on pima canyon road. see map below

time: RTR (that's Ready to Ride) 9am.

route: orange - west on the flats (good warmup), warpaint loop cw, to the saddle where the goat trail goes up to the helipad.
green - back on DC, sidewinder (aka secret) and DC home.

route not in stone. many options are available to those with more skills (like corona loma loop and helipad loop) and/or more time (going down to the foothills and up telegraph to the hieroglyphics). the idea is to have a fun, casual ride with friends before the turkey festivities begin.

elevation climb on desert classic? hahaha! very little.
orange and green route is ~15 miles.

more if you decide to climb to the helipad. nasty climb on goat trail. others can tell you elevation for that, though it's not that high as i recall from 2002 when paul beakley dragged the spring fling c-group up it. (jk, paul; it was worth it, really it was... )

Oooo... a relaxed start time for a relaxed C ride! I just might join you on Thurs AM as a test to see if my shoulder is up for FOTP the next day. A nice spin on DC would be fun.

The helipad is about 1800' feet high. I always take the long way up and then down the goat trail, witch is alot more fun than going up the goat trail.

we actually park on 40th place, on what used to be called the "nazi parking". don't ask.
the street is not very long and parking is only allowed on the west side, but parking on san gabriel is ok. elliott is kind'a far and the only place would be on the safeway parking, SW corner.

there's a park off of 44th street called western star that has lots of parking. from there you can take 44th, capistrano, 43rd to san gabriel or enter the trail from olney dr and ride down to our meeting place.

where ever, please make sure you're RTR by 9!!

oh, and i'll be video taping some areas, so beware!

Combination really... Old age means we don't heal as quickly. And I did crash hard at Goat Camp on Saturday just after nailing the Spiral Staircase for the first time. I was feeling all full of myself and went zipping off after the fast guys towards the next big obstacle (jackhammer) but got all stacked up and went flying superwoman style, landing on my head and shoulder. Yes, you can endo a 29er... I broke another helmet and really slammed the shoulder. I could hardly move on Sunday but I'm much better today and have high hopes that I'll be good to go by FOTP. I guess if one goes big then one should expect to sometimes fall big too I'm just thankful it wasn't worse. I saw stars.

is this ride gonna go no matter what? cause the meteorologist isn't painting a pretty picture of dry pristene trails for thanks. morning. i'm asking cause i'd like to join in, but can't swing it for that morning. if the cacti are drowning, is there a chance the "roll" could be bumped to friday morning? thanx kaboose

I wish! A good crash always improves a ho-hum video.

I'm looking forward to a slowpoke turkey ride so am really hoping for no rain Thurs or Friday. Let it rain tomorrow and give us good weather for our long holiday weekend (well, some of us have a long weekend).

it's sun-shiny here in mesa and not a dropa rain in six months...

JK, it came down in buckets earlier but the ground has swallowed it all up and is looking ok.

if it's raining tomorrow morning we'll hafta reconsider. since the ride is not till 9, and most of y'all don't have an hour drive to get there, check the post for latest news.

perhaps ms durtgurl can give us a weather report around 8am since she lives very close to DC. wouldja DG??

Out here? Only if it really came down hard. Otherwise, a little moisture makes the trails nice and tacky, gets rid of the dust, and makes riding more fun in my mind.
Getting a dropper post is like getting a bidet. I didn't know I needed one until I get one and boy, does my ass thank me.

Well DG you take care of the scapular, didn'y you wear your armor like I asked. I hope you get better quick.
If it's raining when I load the bikes on the car that means I have a shower cap in my cameback. I think we'll ride unless it's 38 and rainy . Patti loves the rain. I hope to see you guys there at 8:57 at that area next to the road per Kaboose map.

The ground will soak this up so quick. It's thristy. later DW
