T100 Mafioso "Opened the Books" and "Made" Some New Guys & A Gal - C Ride Report

Ok, so here are a few pics from the long awaited C Ride, led by Rita. Ten total showed up. We did a three mile look around the hills, dropped off three and then did another five miles, including Porc Rim and the Cactus Garden. It was great finally meeting many of you. Great time.

    1. In order to make this ride, I had to leave a Phoenix Sun's fan hotbed and miss the big Suns Pistons showdown. My kids cheered for the Suns without me.

    2. Dirtluvraz (Mike) chilling after the ride.

    3. Akitadog letting out some "juice" after the ride.

    4. It was nice out.

    5. Flying down a hill.

    7. AZTortoise (Rita) chilling mid ride.

    8. Rita flying (not chilling) mid ride.

    9. Konapdlr riding his new 29er.

Yeah, you would have liked it, Tim. We finished just after 12, you would have gotten back just a little late. I am already thinking about another ride out there, before it gets too hot.

Well as you could tell I'm not an expert and need some endurance. But I try and ride out there a couple times a week after work. This time of year that is around 5:00PM, a little later in the summer. If you want to ride with the slow guy you are welcome anytime as are the rest of the group.

Yeah, it was great to meet all of you. Hope to do it again sometime soon. Other than my endo (Who would have thought 29" wheels wont go over boulders) I had a great time.

Yeah, no kidding. I saw nothing of the sort...of course towards the end I was riding towards the back.

Thanks for the leading skills Dirdir, I enjoyed the tour de dir, and perfect pace for this slow joe.

Great idea for this Rita, thanks for putting it together and making it happen. Count me in next time as well.

Yeah, it was quick. It was when we broke off to go on that porcupine section and we went down in that wash. I hit a large rock going up..still can't figure out how it happened exactly. I think the only person who saw it was El Profeta Negro. He said he just saw a rear tire up in the air.

    I hear ya.

I think I hit that same rock following dirtluvraz into that wash and it pretty much stopped me cold. Nothing to do but to walk to the top, that's why I was slow back to Rita and the group.

edit: disregard all...you are speaking of the porcupine section and not that cactus area.

    All that was there today...

On a serious note, thanks for the great time! Enjoyed meeting you all, and was great to ride with everyone. Next ride, when we plan it, let's do lunch after. Round of brews on me, guaranteed! Uh, just no "fizzy yellow beer"!

By the way, are we now "official" Mafioso? Kinda like getting "jumped in"?

Yea, I came home to a sad house. Kids said the Suns were kicking boody until the end. Scoreboard for the Pistons. It's kind of freaky here. My wife has been a rabid Suns fan since she was a kid. Somehow she infected the kids. Six and four and you would think they have been Suns fans since the 70's. As a Laker guy myself, each year after moving here I stood strong against the Suns. Shaq's departure before last year sort of ended my heartfelt feelings towards the Lakers. Last year, the Suns were the most exciting team in the NBA in some time. That, the wife's fanatic loyalty, plus my kids turning unto little Suns gorillas changed the tide and I am now a Suns "fan", or at least a fan when the kids are around.

Thanks again to everyone who rode, you all made it fun. And a special thanks to Geoff, for leading the 2nd half of the ride.

Lunch after would be good. I think we will be starting earlier in the a.m. though, it was getting a bit too warm there towards the end.

I went back out today from Tatum looking for this cheese grader?

Did some 100, caught porcupine ended up on 1A (which I think was hike/horse only) and then onto 304.

Man, that 304 was brutal! I made it all the way to the main thrailhead, but ended up hiking almost all the way back out. Then caught 8 back to 100.

I got to get one of those maps at REI!

As far as I know, there is no hike/horse only trail in the T100 system except for the Squaw Peak summit trail, which is hike only. 1A is a great trail and covers a large part of the park. Both 304 and 302 offer some tech goodies, going up or down. They just don't get the pub they deserve.
