    Sad to see this today...

    Phil and I went down and did a Ripsey Loop today, great stuff as usual but as we were rolling into Ripsey Ranch for a lunch break something just didn't quite look right.

    This was the scene back in March during the mtbr group ride there:


    The enormous cottonwood tree had crumbled. It was the only bad mark on an otherwise fantastic day.

    Those old growth cottonwoods get a lot of rot throughout. On windy days I can't relax in there shade very well. I have used there shade on windy days down in the canyon but I won't take my eyes off of em. They are very dangerous.

    Wow. That is a bummer.
    I think I may be at fault. My mass and girth were likely too much for the tree to handle.
