    RR: Bikepacking101 - Mogollon Rim

A bit delayed, but here's my recap from the Bikepacking101 group ride a couple weeks ago. TONS of pics, compiled from everyone's camera. Cool to see the different perspectives of the same sections.

The ride was a huge success, hopefully we'll get some more noob's addicted to bikepacking.

Here are a few teaser pics.

    The group mugshot:

    Alan at the first overlook

    Tim getting swallowed by ferns

    Camp spot for the night

    Aspen Spring crossing

    Where's the mtb sign???

    Near the end on AZ87.

Hey John (it is John right?), thanks for posting this. Beyond the obvious BP stoke you provide I find these posts to be very informative and exactly what those of us inspiring to get into BP'ing are looking for. I especially like the individual set up pics...that really helps those of us who have yet to venture out. Gives a solid sense of what and where to carry stuff and a good baseline to start from.

I saw the gps link your provided in the BP'ing forum but when I click on it all I get in Google Drive is the AZSF sign up sheet. Am I missing something with google docs?

Anyhow keep it up! These posts are great

    Question:

Curious how the Contrail held up in the hard rain. I only have a down bag at this point so I guess I'm asking if there was heavy condensation inside. That would not be ideal for a down bag. Maybe it's a non-issue, idk (that's why we ask, lol) Thanks.

EDR: That's strange re: Google drive, perhaps clear out the cache & give it another try?? I just went to that link and it came up fine. Maybe someone else can chime in if they are seeing the AZSF signup sheet as well.

I'll post up a separate link tonight with the route I ended up doing. It was fun checking out everyone's setup, while they all look similar from afar they are quite unique up close.

My Contrail held up ok in the downpour, but I knew I wouldn't be completely dry due to the tents construction. I had some water come through the mesh layer just above the tent tray. While I like the tent a lot and will continue to use it, I can't recommend it for use with a down bag - it will get wet during inclement weather.

I'm going to try & keep the bikepacking events going, hopefully one a month, but we'll see how that plays out. When things start cooling off there will be some routes down by the Gila, think Picketpost/Area52/Ripsey, that kind of stuff.
