I don't have any specifics, but check out VRBO.com or AirBnB.com. We used AirBnB last week for Hawaii, and got a nice place for a decent price.

I second VRBO.com. Rented a nice huge house in Sedona for cheaper than a hotel. Also used it for Hawaii and other places. I never tried airbnb, so no input there.

VRBO is good. You could also check craigslist. Sedona has many vacation rentals offered by property agents. A quick google search can help that. December is kind-of low season with the exception of the last week or so (Christmas through New Years) so you might be able to score something cheap. You could also check with Red Agave to see what they have...

What activities are you hopping to do? What do you like to be near. Sedona is beautiful but will be cold in December. (About 10 degrees cooler thAn Scottsdale/ Phoenix)

Sedona is great all mountain riding, pretty. Not sure what the bar scene is (not much??). Flagstaff is 40min north and has plenty bars/food/shopping. But will most likley be snow. If not great riding up there, even a few DH runs on Mount Elden. Very laid back.

Phoenix/Scottsdale will be a little more expensive but the weather will be great. South Mountain has lots of AM trails and there is even a shuttle service GnarGnar Tours for some downhill runs. Tons of xc trails everywhere. Bars/food/shopping abound. Scottsdale has a very active bar and shopping scene. Scottsdale is more "club" than "pub", big fake boobs on women of all ages spilling out everywhere - for better or worse.
