    Recent Press Release For the Coconino National Forest

    Information Update - Coconino National Forest Recreation Closures 10-09-2013



    Due to a lapse in Federal Government funding, no services or amenities are available at the following recreation sites on the
    Flagstaff, Mogollon Rim and Red Rock Ranger Districts of the Coconino National Forest. Sales of recreation permits and
    passes are suspended for the duration of the funding lapse including Red Rock passes. All Coconino Forest offices are
    closed. All services will be available once funding is restored. Law enforcement and fire suppression will continue during this
    lapse in funding.



    Recreation Resource Management (RRM) sites on the forest are now closed. On Red Rock District these include: Manzanita,
    Pine Flats, Cave Springs, Chavez, Beaver Creek and Clear Creek campgrounds; Clear Creek Day Use Area, and West Fork
    of Oak Creek, Crescent Moon, and Grasshopper day use picnic and parking areas.

    Undeveloped trailheads will remain open and trail and road use across the forest is not restricted at this time. Oak
    Creek Vista on SR89A remains open until Oct. 17th.

    No toilets, grills or garbage service is available at the following sites on Red Rock District. Parking is available -

    Jordan/Jim Thompson Trailhead

    Boynton Canyon Trailhead

    Dry Creek Vista and Trailhead

    Baldwin Trailhead

    Huckaby Trailhead

    Bell Rock Vista

    Courthouse Vista

    Yavapai Vista

    Little Horse Trailhead

    Bear/Doe Mountain Trailhead

    Cathedral Trailhead

    Bell Trail Trailhead

    Bruce Brockett Trailhead

    Honanki Cultural Site

    Deer Pass/89B

    Fossil Creek

    Childs Dispersed Campground

    Beaver Creek Day Use Area



    Other partial closures on Red Rock –

    Lawrence Crossing Camp Area – (Gated, no facilities and parking not available)

    Bull Pen Camp Area – (Closed to all public entry)

    Red Rock Administrative Office and Visitor Center – (no services)

    Oak Creek Visitor Center – (closed, no services)

    Palatki Cultural Site (closed to public entry)

    V Bar V Cultural Site (closed to public entry)

    Encinoso Picnic Area – (Gated, no facilities and parking not available)

    Banjo Bill Picnic Area – ( Gated, no facilities and parking not available)

    Bootlegger Picnic Area – ( Gated, no facilities and parking not available)

    Halfway Picnic Area – ( Gated, no facilities and parking not available)

    Cresent Moon Cabin – (reservations suspended)

    Apache Maid Cabin – (reservations suspended)
