AES FB page suggests Kurt & Caroline are planning some additional torture near the end....as if up Spruce Mtn Road isn't torture enough...

Here is a comment from Kurt on the FB Prescott Mountain Biking page:

"Yes, it'll definitely be tougher this year. The verdict among those that have responded to my informal poll is that this thing should be a bit longer/tougher. The changes for this year will include a bit less in the dells (new trail on the west side of Watson instead of Over the Hill, then later, up Clark Springs, down the west side of the divide on quad trails, all of West Spruce, then 299 instead of Spruce Mtn. There's a chance we'll do the moto trail down to 305 instead of Smith Ravine, but I'd hate to cut out Smith and most of 305."

    You guys enjoy...

I'd keep Smith Ravine. That Moto trail, 7 Mile Gulch, I think?, pales in comparison. Plus 305 is good times too.

Agreed Dag Nabbit. I also hate to lose the Dells stuff...

Longer/tougher might just kill me. I barely managed without lights as it is...

The 52 mile option looks like fun! I can't tell if they cut out some of the Dells or Granite Basin, or just the ending portion of Smith Ravine & some of 305?

I talked to Kurt earlier this week and yes the dells is different going around the west side of Watson lake and dam. The Granite section for the 52 is only different in that
front the lake you go straight to Cayuse trail head then to 332. The last change is at 396 and senator hwy for the 52 just take 299 up and then down 7 mile gulch to 305. Im really leaning toward the 52 mile mini monster the mega sounds brutal!

I have been listening to dubbstep non-stop for the past week or so to prepare my self for the long version.

I figure I'll be so glad when I stop listening to that sh*t come ride time not even the ascent up to the backside of Spruce will break my spirit.

... but, I have been very wrong before.

Looking forward to the PMC long version. I thought last year's route was tough. I can only imagine what this year's route has in store for participants.

Being one of the last ones to finish at night is somewhat uneventful. No one is around to hand you a nice cold beer before your long drive back to the valley at 8pm.

Boy, do I know that. At least someone usually puts one under the windshield washer for you though. Nice folks, these AES riders.

Have some family commitments so not going to make it this year. But I'll probably ride a good chunk of the course in reverse so I'll stop & cheer if I see any of you out there.

Also have to say that the climb up to West Spruce sounds a bit crazy. I've bombed down that hill and always considered it "the point of no return". But the crew climbing up that are in better shape than I am. Good luck!
