Rainbow Rim trail? I am looking to head up in July and am wondering about the availability of primo rim-side camp spots on a Holiday weekend. Any tips?
We got to Locust Pt last Friday and scored one of the three rim-side spots. It's a long way to travel for most folks and the crowds didn't show up until Sat. The other points don't have the direct, rim-side camp spots but in some ways the camping is nicer IMO. The sites are more private, have better wind protection, and are less impacted (ie., forest duff instead of dirt and dust). There always seems to be the ubiquitous bike touring co. at Locust as well.

We rode a little on the trails around town but mainly we did the Hermosa Creek trail from North to South and just turned around when we felt we would be pushing it to get the kids out. You decend about 275 vertical ft per mile then have to climb back out unless you want to do the full 21mi or so which we didn't with our kids. They are 6 and 7 and do really well with my daughter on the tag-a-long and my son is riding a 26" wheeled Orbea.
