Out-of-state cyclists add $88M to AZ economy every year

It's probably mostly roadies, but at least it does say something for cycling in AZ. In yesterday's The Bugle news from Camp Verde.

Worth a read in case you missed it: ADOT completes study on economic impact of bicycling in Arizona - Camp Verde Bugle - Camp Verde, Arizona

    very cool.
The full report is here: http://tinyurl.com/m7tt8va

I just skimmed it, will read it in detail soon. It acknowledges potential gaps in data collection (only 41 surveys received), but identifies 'events' as follows:

    Road and Criterium Bicycling Events
    Mountain Bike Events
    Bicycle Tours
    Triathlon and Duathlon Events
    Cyclocross Events
    Training Camps
    BMX

Now obviously there are no underground events, individual visits, Spring Flings and the like tracked. Nor does it track stuff like 4 of us piling into a hotel room and all gorging at the breakfast buffet...but good studies would usually account for unknowns like that. Overall, great stuff for showing why money should be set aside for bikes lanes (I'm talking at you Cave Creek!) or why our state leg should pass a vechicular homicide law (we are one of only 3 states without one).

I have spent more than my fair share visiting AZ with a mountainbike over the last 8 years!
